Amir Khan's movies are always different than the usual Bollywood masala films with a macho hero, a sexy heroine, and 3.5 villains. There is always a message in his films which he wants the masses to decipher. Be it a film about a dyslexic boy in Taare Zamin Par or be it 3 idiots, all of his movies have something to tell, something to teach.
The 3 idiots, narrated by the character played by R. Madhavan, is a story of three friends pursuing engineering from Imperial Engineering College, Delhi for different reasons. Madhavan is doing it out of compulsion from his father, Sharman Joshi wants to earn money while Amir Khan simply loves machines. Amir Khan aka Rancho as he is named in the movie is an exceptional student with exceptional abilities but no background. He is in fact an orphan servant who is tricked by his master (Javed Jaffery and his father) into getting an engineering degree in his name.
The film revolves around Imperial college where another student named Chatur Ramalingam is a nerd who is habitual of doing nasty things to his classmates to remain on the top position in the class. Boman Irani aka Viru Sahastrabuddhe famously known as Virus among his students is a no-nonsense dean of the college whose younger medico daughter is Kareena Kapoor with whom Rancho falls in love. During a college function on Teacher's day Rancho humiliates Chatur by replacing his speech with obscene words. Chatur gets wild after the function and challenges the three friends for achieving a high goal in their lives. All the four students vow to meet after a few years at the same place in the college.
In a dramatic sequence, Rancho disappears after completing his graduation from the lives of his friends and Chatur beckons them to the same place on the exact date they agreed upon. He flaunts his position and wealth in front of the two friends and inquired about Rancho. Seems nobody knows about Rancho. Two friends along with Kareena and Chatur set off to find Rancho and ultimately locate him in Laddakh where he is teaching in a school. Chatur comes to know that the great scientist that his company wants him to sign a deal with is none other than Rancho and finally succumbs to his knowledge and technical capabilities.
The movie is a good mix of fun and message. It inadvertently tells you that teaching is not just drilling baseless, factless knowledge in the young minds, but more like shaping them with delicate hands and knowledge based on facts and experiments. It also tells that the life is all about experimenting and the experiment might fail but it doesn't mean that the theory you based it on is completely wrong. It could be a failure because of many other reasons too and you have to figure out the reasons.
It is a good watch and perfectly fit for family too. Buy it on junglee.com, get some popcorn and enjoy.
