The Alchemist is the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the markets of Tangiers and across the Egyptian desert to a fateful encounter with the alchemist. The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way teaches us, as only a few stories have done, about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, above all, following our dreams.

     Its's truly a piece of Art..Must read for every Book lover ! 15 May, 2013 On Junglee.com
Prologue – No book read for few years. Was suggested to read this book and saw many good reviews about it. Decided to get it and read it.

A Story that not only tells about following your dreams but compels you to do so. The unfurling of the story happens in a very lucid, unembellished and captivating manner. Paulo Coelho’s ideas unfold and take you to on the journey towards achieving your desires. Every single page is like a scene of a picturesque movie in which you are the lead, Santiago and hence you can have adjectives like courageous, confident, bold, gutsy, spirited, intrepid, assertive, buoyant and what not for yourself! The story that emanates as an interesting narrative finally culminates as a suspense thriller in the very very very last moment. You just cant stop yourself from falling in love with the way it all transpires. Lessons learnt – “The universe has a language”, “Be receptive to the signs from the existence”, “If you desire something from your heart, the entire universe conspires in helping you achieve it”, “Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.” ,“It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting”, “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” and the list goes on and on. If you are acquiescent to the depths of the thoughts of the author, you learn something profound from every page of this marvel.
Epilogue – The Zahir, Manual of the warrior of light, Brida, By the river Piedra I sat down and wept, The winner stands alone. All read within in the next 20 days. Paulo Coelho’s books occupy a shelf in my library and he holds a place in my heart

     A Must Read! 6 March, 2014 On Junglee.com
"when you really want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it"- Paulo Coelho
The Alchemist was the first novel of my life and I personally learnt a lot from it.
Reading this book always sets me back on the right path towards achieving the dreams I have put on hold. We always try to do what everyone expects of us like pursuing a career that you hate just because that is what everyone does.
.There are too many things one can learn from “The Alchemist”. Its all about following your dream and about taking the risk of following your dreams, which is actually so difficult to do and there are very few people in this world who actually do, I mean risk it all, just to follow your heart and your dream.

Moreover, The language is quite simple
This book is brilliantly written. It touches your heart as the story comes to an end. It teaches that every treasure lies in our own hearts and there is no need to search for it in the outside world. Search yourself and you get the world.

It is recommended for those who love spirituality and for those who would love to read something to make their heart smile… :) like I do..
Infact most of the books written by Paulo Coelho are very much interesting and inspiring!!!

The ultimate guide to being fulfilled.. 4 January, 2014 On Junglee.com
To start with I have to say that though i am an avid reader but i hadn't read any serious novels before this one.
Only Chetan Bhagat was the one i managed to complete.
After reading this and if you are able to implement its teachings, your life will change completely.

This book is not easy to start reading. I myself read the first few pages a few times and never went on. Once you read 30 to 50 pages, you will start appreciating the book. For those saying the story was not worth it have failed to completely understand the book.
This is not meant to be a one night read. Its something you need to read slowly, cherishing and appreciating the writing. I took a month reading it and i read only one or two pages at a time, afraid it would end.
However, i warn you this book is no magic. Expect it to be good and you will love it. If you begin expecting it to be out of this world, you won't be able to cherish it.
In conclusion : Read this! There is a reason why it has sold numerous copies worldwide. No other book can ever come close to this for me.

Inspirational and yet soothing 9 October, 2013 On Junglee.com
Based on reviews and multiple recommendations I decided to finally read this book. That was couple of years back when I knew that Paulo Coelho existed and that he was writing "weird" books. I don't know why but I always associated self help books with his name. The little I knew at that time! The book is beautifully written, the language, the simple but yet extraordinary story, the dialogues, the descriptions.... The story itself is not that important, the book's message is what counts: Follow the omens!
I gave it 4 stars only because I think that Paulo Coelho wrote even better books. All in all, the book is definitely worth the money!

  6.  A must read in a life time 10 July, 2014 On Junglee.com
The Alchemist is about hope and dreams, the Alchemist is about following your dreams whatsoever, I can quote Anthony Hopkins who talks about the same thing, he says that you can create your reality , whatever you want to be, whatsoever you want to achieve in your life , just keep thinking about it , keep dreaming about it, eventually it will be materialized , your thought can materialize your hopes and dreams in to reality.
Dreaming is important and following your dreams with great conviction and great belief. I read this book few years back and I can't recall the plot now but I believe the message that you carry from a book is more important and that's what the books are meant for.
I would highly recommend this book because this book gives you a perspective, this book gives you a hope.

It was an Okay book just much hyped. 10 August, 2012 On Junglee.com
I read this book twice actually to realize what all the hype was about.

I agree that book is inspirational and has good points, but surely not something as it is hyped about. Read if you like inspirational stories. and not because you heard its hype.

  8.  'The Bible' of LIFE (if you can relate it to) 3 April, 2013 On Junglee.com
There are very few reasons on why this is the world's BESTSELLING novel of all time.

    Genre : spiritual, drama.

Language : spiritual (written in a way, even layman can understand), less complicated english.

Review: I would rather like to quote it like this:
    "a priceless book"
A fine gift for anyone special.

Overview: a book talking about life and the journey of life though a very simple and inspiring language. For someone, in need of mental help, this can turn out to be a book of high value. And falls in the category of : 'Books changing million lives."

WORTH BUYING and then at-least READING it!

  10.  Book worth reading!!! 7 May, 2014 On Junglee.com
The prologue itself makes you be sure to read the book. The way the book starts is the way really a book lover wants ie., slow start with new characters(really interesting characters) coming in and suddenly nice twists. The story runs with a resemblance of a average humans life and difficulties he face. It will definitely teach about life. and even the story ends either with a tear on the readers eye or a smile of love on readers lips. That is the level of attachment with which the story makes you read. Paulo really proves his art and drags people into it!!!!! This book is real worth reading.

  2.  A good read
One good thing about the book is that throughout the book the author keeps the reader interested and there is no dull phase. The curiosity as to what will happen next keeps the reader interested. The book also ends with a nice twist. Surely worth reading. Published 2 years ago by Prasad On Junglee.com
  3.  Inspiring book
I read the translation of this book. It's full of inspiration in the way of extremely good story telling. But in some last one or two chapters are unnecessarily long which give you a boredom.
Despite of this 1 backdrop it is still must read book.
