Blind Faith by Kimberley Reeves is an achingly moving tale. It narrates the story of Serena who was brutally raped at the young age of 15 which leaves her emotionally scarred, hurt and close and also physically blind. The novel narrates the incidents that happens 7 years later. Serena is now living independently in a house rented by her Aunt Rose with her faithful guard dog Rufus and she teaches in a school for the visually challenged.
It is when dashing, high school crush and her brother’s friend, Will moves in to the upper floor in apartment that things start moving for Serena. Will is charming and affectionate from day 1 and from their initial interaction it is obvious of Will’s awareness and indirect involvement in Serena’s traumatic past. Though Serena has moved on from the incident by blocking everything from the fateful night, Will intrinsically understands that Serena is a long way from coming to terms with. With Will’s help and her determined spirit, Serena slowly begins to understand and deal with her painful past.
How she trusts and begins to develop an intimate relationship with Will was beautifully explained. The revelation of a close family member’s participation in Serena’s past was such a brutal act of meanness and coldness. Kudos for Kimberley Reeves for bringing out so much emotion and depth to every word, gesture, touch and kiss in Serena and Will’s tough yet uplifting chapter of their lives. The epilogue was so satisfying to read.
