The film's title, Chhoti si baat means 'Such a Small Thing' in Hindi. The movie was released in 1975 and was directed by Basu Chatterjee. Chhoti Si Baat is a romantic comedy movie about a very shy young man Arun Pradeep who is portrayed by Amol Palekar. He has the least bit of self-confidence and he never stands up for his opinions. He comes across Prabha Narayan one day, who is portrayed by Vidya Sinha, at a bus stop and falls in love at the very sight. He does not have enough courage to tell her about his love so he manages to just be happy by seeing her from far away. Prabha is completely aware of his love for her and she is secretly enjoying the plight he is undergoing and expecting him to come forward and reveal it. While Arun is not able to do anything about it, there comes Nagesh Shastri who is Asrani and tries to woo her. He is Prabaha's colleague. And Nagesh is exactly the opposite of Arun. He is confident and boastful, while Arun is not. Nagesh is smooth, while Arun is awkward; he is street smart, while Arun is naïve. Also, Nagesh owns a scooter, which Arun does not. An innocent Arun, tries to match with Nagesh with a motorbike of his own. But it is utter fail, and this leads to more embarrassment. He seeks astrology and so much more, but all in vain. In desperation, he finally turns to Colonel Julius Nagendranath Wilfred Singh (Ashok Kumar), who is a man who has made it his mission to help all those in love. Colonel Singh helps Arun and thus begins the journey of turning Arun into a better, confident man, with lesson plans and philosophy. A new Arun returns to Bombay with more hopes to win over Prabha.
