Product Features

  • Some users will also get tired of having to turn the exposure mode dial all the way
  • round to get to the video mode, as there's no direct access button
  • The optical viewfinder is nothing special. It's a bit too small and dark, but it does the
  • job fine. Unfortunately there's no presence detector to automatically switch off the

The entry-level DSLR for professional images 6 October, 2013 On
I am a serious photo enthusiast. I love Canon over Nikon for the easy to use controls. I have used 5D Mark II and III for wedding assignments and serious photography, but I also wanted an entry level DSLR for the not-so-professional times. I have been using Canon EOS 600D for the past 6 months, and I am quite happy with the output.

For starters, I banked upon the near professional output of 18 mega pixels and Full HD video recording, but that was not all when I finalized 600D. I also like to use strobes and Canon 600D allows me to wirelessly control external speedlites with the inbuilt flash. The ISO level boost to a staggering 12,800 was another feature to crave for.

All Canon EOS cameras have inbuilt auto-focus motors, Canon EOS 600D is not an exception and it enables focusing with most of the canon lenses (EF, EF-S series). Nikon on the other hand does not provide inbuilt auto-focus motors in most of their entry levels, which I find is a negative in entry level Nikon DSLRs, even though they have a host of other inbuilt features.

If you are a video enthusiast then you would probably love the flip-out LCD screen, it offers shooting from low level angles and increased creativity.

Overall, yes you can go for this DSLR, if you value the ease of usage over inbuilt post processing features.

My suggestion is, if you purchase this camera then go for the bundled lens offer. Please do not go for the Canon EF-S 18-135 kit; I did not like the output of that lens. I found that Canon EF-S 55-250 is perhaps the best short-focus lens Canon ever produced, and you would also love the output of 18-55 IS II kit lens.

Here are the pros and cons of Canon EOS 600D, hope this helps you to decide

    1. Flip out screen for variable angles and unlimited video possibilities
    2. 24p, Full HD video recording
    3. Inbuilt auto focus motor to focus with EF, EF-S series lenses
    4. Scene Intelligent Auto mode, nice innovation from Canon, I found that even in Auto mode the output is quite decent, also RAW images available in Auto mode
    5. Wireless sync with external speedlites
    6. Creative Auto mode lets you shoot creative compositions easily
    7. Has inbuilt lighting optimizer

    1. The cost is a bit steep considering feature enriched Nikon entry level DSLRs
    2. High ISO shots are grainy compared to other cameras at same ISO settings
    3. Does not provide better light optimization than Nikons D-Lighting system
    4. It has a pentamirror and not a pentaprism system
    5. Has only 9 Auto Focus points (Nikon entry levels provide 11 AF points)
