My first DSLR - and I absolutely LOVE it
4 February, 2012
Bought this baby a year back when my second daughter was born. Graduated from a trusty old Canon S3is, which was a very good camera to learn about manual controls and was the perfect stepping stone to the world of DSLR's.
And what a world it is. I landed on the planet of Entry Level DSLR's and said, "Take me to your leader!" And they brought me to my T2i (550D).
After about a year with this camera, I still love it and don't feel the need to upgrade to another one. Instead, I am investing in better lenses.
In case you are interested, I started out with the kit 18-55 and bought a 50mm f/1.8 and the 55-250. I have since sold the 18-55 and 55-250 and bought a 28-135. My eyes are now on the awesome 24-70mm f/2.8L, but it's way out of my budget. For now. :)
The 50 mm f/1.8 has given the absolute best bang for the buck, as far as portraits are concerned. My advice - buy it along with the 550D. Also, the main difference between the 550D/T2i and 600D/T3i is the articulated screen. Not worth the extra $$ to me.
The one complaint I have about this camera/all Canon DSLR's is that they lack full time autofocus when taking videos. (Nikon has this feature, but their pics aren't as good as Canons, IMHO. Others might beg to differ. To which I would say - chhutta nahin hai, bhai!)
Bottom line - I highly recommend this camera. Just bought one for my kid brother and sister as well.
