Overview: Cigars of Pharaoh

Cigars of the Pharaoh: The Adventures of Tintin is a graphic novel based on the famous comic series by Hergé that follows Tintin and his dog Snowy on a new exciting adventure across Arabia and India. The fourth in the series of adventures, Cigars of the Pharaoh was first published between 1932 and 1934 in black and white and starts with Tintin holidaying on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean sea. Here he runs into famed film mogul Rastapopoulos and also Sophocles Sarcophagus, who is an Egyptologist. On being blamed for heroin smuggling by the bumbling duo of detectives, Thomson and Thomson, Tintin and Snowy abandon ship to join Sophocles Sarcophagus on his journey to Pharaoh Kih-Oskh's tomb.

Here, our young protagonist discovers a tomb filled with cigar boxes, and he soon embarks on an adventure that takes him to different parts of the world. Over time, Tintin finds out that there is an international opium-smuggling gang behind all of this and sets out to bring justice to the victims. He makes new friends and enemies along the way as the secret behind the Cigars of the Pharaoh unfolds. Who is the main conspirator? Can Tintin crack the mystery of Pharaoh Kih-Ohkh's tomb in time? Hergé paints a vivid picture of a young hero who will stop at nothing to get the truth out.

Hergé is the pen name adopted by Georges Prosper Remi who took the whole world by storm with the 'Adventures of Tintin' series in 1929. He has also written two other series namely, Quick & Flupke and The Adventures of Jo, Zette and Jocko. In 2003, Hergé was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame and continued to be a strong influence for other comic book writers and illustrators. After the black and white edition of this graphic novel was first introduced in 1934, the colourised version came out in 1955. This English paperback edition of the book has been published by Egmont with an ISBN 10 number of 1405206152, and ISBN 13 number of 9781405206150.
