If you had been to one of Eric Clapton dos in the 60s, you could see ecstatic fans holding up placards that declared unequivocally that Clapton is God. Come to think of it, why not? His self-proclaimed, I am the greatest guitar player in the world, is not really an exaggeration.
This DVD, though not authorized by Clapton, obviously is one that echoes the sentiments of the placard holders. It is stuffed with information, performance clips and hitherto unseen photographs.
60s were when music as we know it today was born. Eric was one of the manyparents. His earliest band members Ben Palmer from The Roosters, Alan Clayson, Top Topham and Chris Dreja from The Yardbirds, Neil Innes, the songwriter, Tom McGuiness from Manfred Mann, John Mayall of Ten Years After, Dave Kelly, fellow blues guitarist of Eric, Chris Welch, the music critic, Nigel Williamson, the music journalist have all largely succeeded in convincing that Eric was no ordinary musician . Considering that it showed even when Eric was too young, they were only telling the truth.
Can you imagine Brian Jones being rejected by any band to be part of it? It did happen. The Roosters did just that, you learn from this DVD. It has a lot of information on Erics Cream days, which is understandable. A bonus, surely, is Jimi Hendrix making his appearance in some clips.
A most satisfying experience this DVD is. It does not matter whether you are Erics fan or not.
