  2.  Good Amalgamation of Action Intrigue and Science…This Book Deceives Reader till the Very End 9 November, 2013 On
Deception Point is the book that introduced me to Dan Brown. I was in school when bought this book as a summer read and loved it immensely. Well now, years later, I may not love it with the same intensity or find loophole I didn’t see the first time but it’s still an exhilarating read with nice suspense.

    >>>>My Thoughts
I liked the plot, premise and execution. It’s entertaining and nail-biting. Deception Point is an out and out thriller. But at the same time it is also very thought provoking.
The book opens in Washington DC during a tense Presidential campaign. The current serving President Zach Herney is a man of strong principles, high moral values and is also a major NASA supporter unlike his major opponent Senator Sedgewick Sexton. Sedgewick’s campaign is based on turning NASA into a private- non-governmental agency, thus saving the US taxpayer billions of dollars annually. The strategies are working and in turn helping him climbing his way up in the polls. Sedgewick Sexton is also corrupt and is taking huge illegal contribution for his campaigns from private aerospace companies who will gain billions from the privatization of NASA. With so much pressure on NASA as well as President Zach Herney, who much to his own detriment in the polls, badly needs a big success for people to over look the many failures & much spending of NASA. A hope arises when NASA satellite detects a large, high-density rock buried 200 feet below the Milne Ice Shelf on Ellesmere Island, high in the Arctic Circle. It’s no ordinary rock; the scientists determine the rock is a meteor containing fossils proving the existence of Extraterrestrial life. The White House sends a team of experts to authenticate the find and check the existence of a Meteor.

Enter our main female protagonist Rachel Sexton who is an Intelligence analyst. Rachel is contacted by the President and asked to join the team of experts. This stuns Rachel as she is none other than the daughter of Presidents number one competitor Senator Sedgewick Sexton. President Zach Herney reasons to choose Rachel for making this report is specifically because of her relationship with his competitor. The President believes that this discovery will meet great deal of cynicism even from his supporters so who better than the daughter of his opponent to declare the finding. Rachel on her part agrees under certain terms and conditions and flies to Arctic and is joined by the enigmatic scholar Michael Tolland our male Protagonist.
If you think things are murky till now then get prepared for the ultimate deception as the plot thickens.

While in the Arctic Rachel uncovers a very shocking scientific deception that could not only cause political and scientific disturbance, cost the President his election but also plunge the world into controversy. When Rachel and Michael attempt to investigate things further they are thrust into life threatening danger and are attacked by a team of assassins before they could warn the President of the wrong doings. They flee for their lives and their only hope for survival is to discover who is behind this incredible conspiracy and expose the truth before it’s too late.
The plot is quite intriguing but the pace could have been sleeker. The thrill picks up after the first hundred pages but once it does its difficult to put the book down. The adventure will keep you on the edge of your seat ride. The climax will shock you to say the least. The one who was behind the plot will surely come out as a bolt from the blue for the readers.

The suspense in the book is really very good. Dan Brown makes the readers constantly think, be it about the Meteorite-if it’s real or not, the intention of NASA, the motive of the President, the role of Senator Sexton. The readers will go through the motion of questioning everybody and everything. I personally was intrigued with the plot curios to know if the meteorite was all hoax or not and if it was all a cheat-trick then how could anyone possibly trick some of the most brilliant scientific minds and full off the scam. Even when I was not reading the book I was digging up the motives of each character for putting up the deception. While having my supper I would be thinking if the President is innocent or involved in the scandal. What’s the role of Senator Sexton or are they all just pawns of someone more deceitful, which is a good thing. The book grips the mind of the readers which some really good twists and turns.
In the beginning the plot might seem to be a bit repetitive and contrived, but as the story progresses the reader will feel nothing but pure adrenaline rush. Dan Brown is one of the best authors in the suspense-thriller genre. He does his research well and has a grip on his subject matter. The plot is original and really out of the ordinary. It will grip your attention till the very last word. Just be prepared to stay awake the whole night because sleep will not just come to you till you finish it. The characters are very fascinating and have depth to it. I hope Dan Brown include Rachel Sexton again in future books.
