Overview: Devil and Miss Prym

The Devil and Miss Prym is a tale of fiction written by Paulo Coelho, which is set in the quaint village of Viscos. The events in this book occur over the course of one week, when a young man visits the village with something mysteriously tempting. The stranger, who harbours deep secrets and has had terrible experiences in his past, is here with a mission, to find out whether humans, at the core, are evil or good? His coming is taken as a sign of good things in Viscos, where everyone is greedy and wants to do better in life. But only an old woman, named Berta knows, that in fact, a storm is approaching.

The stranger hides eleven gold bars in the woods, where he meets Chantal Prym and tells her that peace will return to the village if a person is sacrificed for the gold. Miss Prym knows about the precious cargo hidden by the stranger and begins to contemplate if she can use it to get a fresh start in life, and get out of Viscos for good. Her angels and devils are engaged in a battle, and she now has to decide the fate of the village and her own. Rife with the author's profound style of narration and poetic language, this book makes you ask the same question: Are we, as humans, in support of the angels or in the grasp of the devil?

Paulo Coelho love for storytelling knows no bounds, and today the whole world has taken notice of the writer's gift.
