Overview: Emperors of the Peacock Throne

The book Emperors of the Peacock Throne: The Saga of the Great Moghuls is an interesting book written by Abraham Eraly.

The story follows the life of Zahir-ud-din Babur who entered Punjab by crossing the Indus River with just a modest army and few canons. Just after five months, he fights one of the most important battles of his life. He fights against the mammoth sized army of Ibrahim Lodi who was the then ruler of India who was of Afghan descent. It is right after this victory that Babur establishes the Mughal rule in India. This establishment changed the course of history in India for the next three generations.

The book is not just a mere description of that era but also an objective and definitive biography of the Mughal dynasty. Abraham Eraly uses his objectivity and dramatic imagination skills in order to bring life to pioneer Babur, dreamer Humayun, enigmatic Akbar, aesthetes Jehangir and Shah Jahan and determined Aurangazeb.

Abraham Eraly was born and raised in Kerala. He taught Indian History at colleges in India and the United States. He was also the editor of the current affairs magazine for quite some time. Currently, he resides in Chennai and is working on Classical Indian Civilization. Apart from Emperors of the Peacock Throne: The Saga of the Great Moghuls, Eraly has also written, 'The Last Spring: The Lives and Times of Great Mughals', and 'Gem in the Lotus: The Seeding of Indian Civilization'. Recently the novel, 'Night of the Dark Trees', was published. The paperback edition of Emperors of the Peacock Throne: The Saga of the Great Moghuls is listed with the ISBN number 0141001437.
