English Vinglish celebrates the concepts of womanhood and will power
English Vinglish reflects Shinde's relationship with her mother. She was a Marathi-speaking woman, who did not know English very well, and ran her own pickle business. Her mother's inability to speak English used to embarrass Shinde in her childhood and she made this film to say sorry to her mother. Through the character of the protagonist, Shashi Godbole (played by Sridevi), Shinde celebrates the concepts of womanhood and will power.
