Overview: Eragon: Christopher Paolini

Eragon takes you to places that only exist in your head. This mythical story takes you through the world of magic, destiny and an ancient legacy involving a dragon. The most interesting highlight lies in the fact that the author is only 17. The story focuses on the poor farm boy, Eragon, his tryst with destiny and the mystical world on legacy, old world stories and haunting realities. He is drawn into this adventure with the most unlikely companion at his side-a dragon.

Eragon finds a polished stone in the forest and is very happy with this find. He thinks it to be a precious stone that will help buy his family some food to survive through the winter. To his utter shock and disbelief, he realizes that it is a dragon egg which hatches into a dragon called Saphira. This is the unveiling of the legacy that is about to become his destiny. This legacy is as old as the Empire itself and Eragon's life as he knows is lost instantly. The journey he embarks on involves Saphira the dragon, some magic, misplaced destiny and power.

An old storyteller is the only guide he has and the fledgling dragon to support him along with an ancient sword. One does think that he was meant to find this stone and pursue his destiny after all. The story goes on to describe the navigation of these two together through dangerous terrain, hostile enemies, and a completely evil king.

It is up to the little Eragon to take up this mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders against this evilest king, vanquish them and become the first Dragon Rider in 100 years who is not controlled by the king. This tale of fantasy leads to Eragon taking on a battle for the right reasons as the fate of the Empire rests on his puny shoulders.
