Overview: The Everything Store

The advent of internet opened up new business opportunities but very few people realized the potential of this medium and exploited the opportunities. One such visionary is Jeff Bezos who founded the online store The book 'The Everything Store' is an inspiring story of how this online book store became a place which allowed people from anywhere to buy anything which was delivered within 24 hours. The author Brad Stone goes in depth and finds out the reasons for Amazon's success and reveals them in a unique narrative style. The book is not limited to biography and goes beyond the conventional methods of story-telling.

Jeff Bezos started off his new venture by selling books online. This proved to be a profitable business and many advised Bezos to settle down in this business. However, Bezos had different plans in his mind. He had realized the potential of Internet and wanted to ride on this new global wave. Objective appraisal of Jeff Bezos and how he transformed Amazon into a leading global Internet retailer. There are useful insights on why focus, self-belief and thinking long-term pay off. But the peek into some of Mr Bezos' personality traits and personal relationships makes you wonder about the cost of succeeding.

Certainly not a must read despite having won the FT 2013 Book Award.
