Overview: A Feast of Roses

The Feast of Roses is a historical novel based on the life of Empress Nur Jahan, the twentieth wife of the Mughal Emperor, Jahangir. It is a sequel to the first book of the Taj Mahal Trilogy, The Twentieth Wife.

Mehrunnisa, better known as Empress Nur Jahan, is the only wife Jahangir marries for love. He loves Nur Jahan so deeply that he transfers his power of sovereignty to her, but wielding it is no easy task. Not that she is not capable of it, but Empress Jagat Gosini, one of Jahangir's wives, schemes and plots against Nur Jahan and becomes a formidable rival in the imperial harem. And when it comes to the royal court, the ministers are not happy either, with a woman having the supreme power. For them, Empress Nur Jahan is still Mehrunnisa, a mere woman with no knack of a ruler and who cannot be entrusted with such a colossal responsibility.

She fights them all - chauvinistic ministers and conniving circumstances - with her wisdom, power and love. She forms a triquetra of her own with the three men she can trust upon: her father, her brother and Prince Khurram, who will come to be known as Shah Jahan in history. Beneath Nur Jahan's poise and grace lie her will and determination to get whatever she wants at any cost. But she never loses the trust of Emperor Jahangir, the one person who loves her.

Indu Sundarasen is an Indian author, who is known for her Taj Mahal Trilogy.
