Overview: Fight Club

Written by Chuck Palahnuik, The Fight club is an extremely popular story thanks to its adaptation onto the big screen starring well known actors such as Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. The story is of an unnamed protagonist, who is also the narrator of the story. The narrator suffers from Insomnia, but inspired by his doctor's exasperated remark that insomnia is not suffering, he finds relief by impersonating a seriously ill person in several support groups. He then meets a mysterious man named Tyler Durden and together they establish an underground fighting club as a rdical form of psychotherapy.

The narrator then meets Marla Singer, another "tourist" who visits the support group under false pretenses. A chance encounter and an untimely destruction of the narrators house leads them to an unlikely alliance where they find that they both enjoy fist-fighting and soon set up a fight club for numerous men with similar interests complete with a set of rules. As the story progresses, a love triangle ensues between the narrator, Tyler and Marla. For a brief confusing period the narrator even considers the fact that Tyler and Marla might be the same people. Soon the Fight Club becomes a nationwide presence and Tyler uses it as means of spreading his anti-consumerism ideas and recruits fight club members to pull elaborate pranks on American corporate and forms an organization called "Project Mayhem". The narrator though initially takes part in these activities, is horrified by the destruction caused and moves against Tyler and in doing so faces a terrifying truth that Tyler is not a separate person, but is in fact the Narrators split personality.
