Possibly on of the great Westerns of all time, this cemented Leone's position as one of the best directors of all time, and Clint Eastwood's as the action hero.
Yet, this movie would not be complete for me without the devious Eli Wallach. His stare is mischievous, and yet sinister all at one time, and his antics tend to make you laugh and then scare you. His acting is par excellence, and another one of the high points of the movie. Lee Van Cleef is good too, but the other two simply give better performances.
This movie has the Leone hallmark shot where time stands still, and nothing happens for oh so long. After that the violence is bloody but emphatic. I also doff my hat to the master composer in Ennio Morricone. His sounds are eerie, and yet strangely soothing. And of course there is that famous theme song, which pretty much everyone who is anyone knows.
Another Leone Masterpiece which adorns my DVD mantlepiece, and will remain there for as long as I can.
