Overview: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' is a murder mystery with intense and brutal events. Written by Stieg Larsson, the story is inspired by his own childhood that he spent in the countryside of Sweden with his grandparents. This is the first book of the famous Millenium Trilogy, and it is set in the icy background of Swedish countryside. The author has written the plots and twists in an intriguing manner making it a fast-paced read and an instant page-turner.

Plot Of The Story

A Swedish industrialist files a libel case against the protagonist, journalist Mikael Blomkvist. Mikael loses the case and spends a short term in prison. After serving his term, he goes into an exile in the countryside of Sweden and works there for a billionaire named Henrik Vagner. Before he starts working for a billionaire, he is scrutinized by a computer whiz kid, Salander. Salander is a rebellious kid with a dysfunctional family history and numerous body-piercings with an asocial tendency. However, Salander and Mikael, later, team up to hunt a dangerous serial killer down. What follows next is a series of brutal and dangerous events that the author has described in such a way that the readers get hooked. Along with Mikael, the readers also wonder how the killer is related to Salander.

  1.  A powerful mystery 26 December, 2013 On
Follow a year in the life of financial reporter Mikael Blomkvist as he embarks on mysterious research project with the assistance of the subversive young Lisbeth Salander.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is intricate and unpredictable. The book was originally published in Sweden, which occasionally caused me some confusion. How much is a Swedish Krona really worth? But, overall this didn't hinder my listening experience. Simon Vance is a master narrator which heightened my enjoyment the story. All that being said, I wasn't wholly impressed with this book. Don't get me wrong, it is a good book, but is it international acclaim and two-time movie adaptation good? I'm not so sure. Perhaps it is because I don't usually read mysteries, or perhaps it is that other mystery novels aren't as well written, but I was surprised that it wasn't better after all the glowing reviews I read in the past. I will definitely finish the series and I am looking forward to seeing both the Swedish and Hollywood movies
