Overview: Half-Blood: A Covenant Novel

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem—staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck. About The Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout lives in West Virginia. All the rumors you've heard about her state aren't true. Well, mostly. She spends her time reading, working out, watching zombie movies, and pretending to write. Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent her time writing short stories... therefore explaining her dismal grades in math.

Just read the review, will ya? 9 December, 2013 On

****this contains spoilers for the Covenant books AND Vampire Academy***

First off, VAMPIRE ACADEMY fans would be infuriated (including me) and also a bit aghast that how every teeny tiny detail is common!
Of course the book is set around Greek mythology and Vampire Academy is about..well...vampires but From the first page of the book I was like ,"DITTO ....ohh not this she trying to rewrite VA around Greek Gods instead of Vampires??" But its astounding how the characters and other things have sooo much in common, here's a list of it:

    COVENANT: 2011 VA:2007
    *pretty clear who cheated!

1.Strong and badass protagonist kin Rose
2.A bad foreboding demon kin strigoi
    3.Likes “pure bloods” kin “morois”
    4.Lenient about “half-bloods” kin “dampirs”
5.Protagonist living away with her mother from covenant kin Rose away with Lissa in VA
6.has full skills in fighting kin Rose
    7.A substance/metal that kills demons kin stake>strigoi
8.“pure bloods” taking darkside becoming demons kin “morois/dampirs” killing for blood becoming strigoi
*thought: she has copy pasted the framework of the whole concept of VA..
    9. so far characteristics of demon hunting in solitary kin strigoi in VA
    10. having elemental powers kin moroi.
^diff:in VA strigoi loses its powers whereas demons still have elemental powers.
    11. Protagonists can not be in relationships.
    12. Intermingling of pure bloods & humans banned kin Moroi with dampirs/humans

There are loads of it but even I have limits for spoilers...

Anyway, what I did like about the series is that, primarily it doesn't apparently share everything with VA though a major part of it
but I was craving for a book as BADASS as VA. It has fine plotting, the author id hell-bent on raining holy hell on the protagonists, a part I like!!...It is kind of refreshing and emotional to see the characters going through phases of depression, happiness, tough times etc. A thing that looked a little uncanny to me however,(PLZ PLZ don't read this if you haven't read the book!!) is that an offspring of a half-blood and a pure-blood is an Appolyon i.e the God-killer..and at least two exist throughout a time period.Of course it CAN NOT happen like that? Not everyone follow the law and it's not like they have a camera or bodyguards on each person 24x7?
Anyway, if you are in a dilemma to read it or not, I will recommend you should even if SOME of the details are from another book, but Covenant series is one of those wholesome books that have everything in them from supernatural to adventure, from fighting to romance & also sarcasm & humour! and you'd be flipping the pages to see what will happen next in this world and can be unputdownable sometimes. It is worth reading! I initially wanted to give it 5 stars to it but since VA is one of my favourites..I give Covenant series 4.6 stars.
