Overview: Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings

The Hobbit is a classic fantasy tale for children published for the first time in 1937. Penned by J.R.R. Tolkien, the book has been awarded the best juvenile fiction by the New York Herald Tribune. Set in a fictional land called Middle earth and with unconventional characters, the book is considered as a classic in children's literature. It is its critical and financial success; that draws the attention of the publisher to approach J.R.R. Tolkien for a sequel. The sequel then becomes a masterpiece in the world of fiction novel known as The Lord of The Rings.

Hobbit is a human-like race who resides in the land of Middle-earth, both created by J.R.R Tolkien. The protagonist of the book, Bilbo Baggins, is a peaceful young hobbit, and loves to be only inside his comfortable house. His life is simple, quiet, content, and no hassle, and also has no desire to leave this comfort zone. One day, a wizard called Gandalf comes to him along with a group of dwarfs, and suggests a plan for the expedition of a treasure that belongs to Smaug, the dragon. Despite all the inconveniences, he sets off for an adventurous and dangerous journey.

In the journey, they face lots of difficulties, even meet goblins, but they also manage to overcome with their wits and unity. Secrets are unfolded one after another building up the mystery for them. At one point of time, Bilbo gets separated from the rest and is lost. Then, he stumbles upon a ring and meets a strange creature known as Gollum, who keeps Bilbo engaged in riddles. Bilbo has no help to get rid of Gollum but the ring.

J.R.R. Tolkien initially served in WWI British army and later became an English writer, poet, and philologist. He is famous for his The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the characters that he has created, which were seen never before.
