Overview: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is a brilliantly narrated novel by the seasoned author Suzanne Collins. She has vividly shown the evil side of humanity, how brutal can humans become once they get the power. Her descriptive life-or-death story plot is extremely gripping, and it is difficult to put down the book even for a minute. It is the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy, and the other two books are 'Catching The Fire' and 'Mockingjay'.

Plot Of The Novel

The Hunger Games story plot is engaging but equally violent and nerve-jangling. The story is set in the futuristic North America, in the roaring city named Capitol, surrounded by 12 remote districts. The superpower Capitol with its advanced military, grand lifestyle and great scientists has the reputation of being cruel and harsh towards the lesser endowed 12 districts. Each year, the Capitol council selects a boy and a girl of the age-group 12-18 years for the participation in the annual Hunger Games, a fight of life or death that is telecasted live on television. In this way, Capitol maintains its supremacy over the 12 districts.

Remarkable Characters

Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year old who lives with her mother and a younger sister, is the protagonist of the novel. She replaces her sister in this blood bath and takes up the invitation of the Hunger Games. She has survived the game once, but her chance to come out victorious seem to be doubtful this time. She has to make choices against love and humanity, for survival. The character sketch of Katniss is simply marvellous. The author has built the image of a courageous, witty and compassionate girl, who is fighting every day to survive the brutality of life, yet returning and receiving love. The story depicts the helplessness of victims and their families, who are unable to save their children from the evil clutches of this bloody bath in the name of the Hunger Games.

     AMAZING! A must read! 11 December, 2013 On Junglee.com
Intelligent and sharp protagonist with a strong narrative voice. Hunger Games Trilogy is one of the most read books in the genre of YA science fiction. The story makes you respect and be happy with what you have as some children do not have the facilities and have to work at an early age to feed their families. Packed with an interesting plot and adventure, Hunger Games Trilogy has been turned into an official motion picture and bagged many awards itself.

  2.  An amazing ending to a brilliant series 26 December, 2013 On Junglee.com
    Genre:
    Middle Reader Dystopian Adventure

    Plot:
Katniss has survived two Hunger Games and the destruction of her District. Now the face of the rebellion, she must endure the consequences of her actions and an unstable future.

    Verdict-
Mockingjay is an amazing finale to the Hunger Games trilogy. It slowly gains momentum until you are barreling to a conclusion that is not only immensely satisfying, but unpredictable to the last word. The message we take for granted in the first two books of the series is eloquently driven home in Mockingjay

This book quite was quite well paced making it an engrossing read. The concept was also quite interesting, seemed like a mockery to the current fashion of reality TV. Loved the description and fight in the arena, it was well shown. This book is worth a read on many levels. Definitely recommended.

  5.  Very good book 2 May, 2014 On Junglee.com
I bought this around 1 month ago, but got the time to read it recently. Once started, it was so connected that for hours I could not move away from it. Though the violence level explained in the book is more than average, the overall content is meaningful and according to situations.
