The Department of Transportation (USDOT or DOT) is a federalcabinet department of the United States government. The office'smain concerns are those associated with transportation andtransportation needs across the country. Established in 1967, theDOT is administered by the United States Secretary ofTransportation. Some of the DOT's larger agencies include theFederal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Federal TransitAdministration (FTA), the Maritime Administration (MARAD), and theFederal Highway Administration (FHWA). The Department of Transportation and its agencies createnumerous publications each year to educate the public about certainareas of transportation, new technology in the field, and thehistories of the agencies and the department.
