Overview: The Idea of Justice

What is justice? How are humans misled by this word? Does it exist? It is around these questions that The Idea of Justice dwells. Written by the Noble Prize winning economist Amartya Sen, The Idea of Justice is a beautifully scripted book about the depths of the word JUSTICE and how it is perceived by the mass. Sen's deeply interesting synthesis and philosophy is the brick of the book.

Throughout the book, Sen attempts to redefine the word by setting aside existing models of justice and pursuing another optimistic one for the sake of enlightenment. He illustrates his ideas by mentioning daily activities and how they are somehow connected to attaining justice. Sen also reasons the analysis of the word by the people and also describes the change in view from the past. He describes how the justice is being killed by the people, just by deciding a perfect definition for justice and building institutions around it. The book revolves around commentating political philosophy, and it does well doing that.

Sen considers all the issues that are intertwined into the concept of justice, such as liberty, human rights, equality and happiness. Not only does he point out the faults in the society and illustrate it beautifully by connecting it to everyone's lives, he also provides solutions to these problems. The book dealing with such a powerful topic, and since being written very powerfully, it received huge critical acclaim and success. It is considered to be one of the greatest books that have ever been written about the contemporary political philosophy.

Amartya Sen is a noble prize winning Indian economist and Noble Laureate who widely contributes to social justice and welfare economics. He is currently working as an Economics and Philosophy professor in Harvard University. Sen is an atheist and associates this with Hinduism being a political entity.
