Overview: Life is What You Make it

Life is What You Make it is a novel, which has been written by Preeti Shenoy, an Indian author, who has featured in the Forbes List of the 100 most influential celebrities of India. She is a multi-talented person and takes active interest in a wide variety of things, right from yoga to sociology to photography. Due to the nature of his job, her father had to be constantly on the move during her formative years. Shenoy accompanied her father and got a chance to reside and study in different parts of India. This in turn, helped her to be familiar with the different languages and various cultural aspects of the country. Although she had a knack for writing from a very young age, she decided to become a professional writer only after she created a blog in October, 2006, which enjoyed a high rank on the search engines. In 2008, she started working for Times of India. She also wrote articles for the Reader's Digest. She felt encouraged by the positive response about her writing that she got from different sources, and thereby, began writing her first book, 34 Bubblegums and Candies. This is a collection of narratives of several real life incidents. Srishti Publishers & Distributors published this edition of Life is What You Make it, on January 1, 2011. If you want to buy books online, you can get this from any of the online bookstores listed on this page.

Shenoy's interests are extremely diverse just like her academic degrees. She takes a keen interest in oil painting as well as painting with water colours. She has worked with underprivileged children. She has taught them Math and English. She has also worked with a number of schools conducting workshops on subjects like creative crafts and thinking skills. Some of her poems were published in the Sulekha Book Series. The Secret Wish List, Tea for Two and a Piece of Cake, and The One You Cannot Have are the other books written by her. Tea For Two and a Piece of Cake, which is her third book, was one of the top five best-selling Indian fictions of 2012.

While she does enjoy her life to the fullest, Ankita is equally serious about studies. She has dreamt all her life about a happening college life and finally manages to get admitted into one of the premier management schools of the city. She is one of the most popular and attractive girls in her college. But, only six months after her admission to the MBA college, she finds herself admitted to a mental health hospital. What happened to her? Will she ever be able to live a normal life again? The book makes for a compelling read.

I would recommend this to everyone. But,

beware.. after reading this book you may

feel a little disconnected with the world or

maybe you'll just want to think about

your life in general. This actually made

me look back at my life and all the things

I have done.. Being a sensitive person.. it

really made me wonder and stop.

Okay, it is worth the read. Please, Do read it. You may or may not like it. But, you surely would be

more knowledgeable after you read this

    book.

Its a story of a girl not story of her determined struggle against her mental condition 28 November, 2012 On Junglee.com
From the title you think its a book that will inspire. however the inspiration part comes quite late in the story. The story at the beginning is full of details which could have been shorter so that the focus could be on 'what you make it part'.
School goers may like it but if you are a serious reader you would get annoyed as you read it because of tit bit details of romance, drugs in parties which only go on to add some spice to the story. Perhaps the author took inspiration from 'highest selling author' to add spice but the flavor didn't come out good, at least for seasoned readers.

  3.  Highly Disappointing.... 19 April, 2014 On Junglee.com
I read this book, or more accurately tried to read this book. I was unable to finish this book because the author Preeti Shenoy tests your patience through an average story and horrible writing.

This book is an example of how poor some of the present Indian writing is, especially with some of these overnight "bestselling" Authors.

I passed this book to some of my friends and asked them to read. Not just me, even they found this book to be a piece of useless writing.

Hate to be a bit harsh, but the truth is 'Life is what you make it' is not worth spending even 60 rupees. If you are so bored, please read five point someone once again or watch some movie on your laptop. But don't waste your time and money on this book!

Giving a rating of 1 as I can't rate it to 0 or negative rating.

  4.  Life is what You Make it wonderful book 25 March, 2014 On Junglee.com
I was and after reading this book still am looking for a technique How to find one's purpose in Life. That book did not help too much but that is not a critical view that just was my expectation. Maybe in some other book. ;o) As far as the book value I would say that it might help parents as well as their children get the right understanding what they are looking for in Life. To be more specific I would say that this book's message is clear and loud: Do what you Love /passion/is. Not what others expect from you. Sounds simple but in real Life is little bit more complicated. Thanks to Peter Buffett- his book, his music and his public Life the World will be better place for all of us on this small and wonderful Blue Planet Earth. Namaste Peter and all the fellow human beings.

I've read this book when I was having hard times during my graduation. My sister gave this book to me. The writing style of the book is so lucid that I finished it within a day. This book tells about the hardships in the life of a person and the way to cope with them.

JUNGLEE is one of the imp. site where people can get varieties of good quality materials in reasonable prices. Many things had purchased by me, one of them is a creation of Preeti Shenoy, which is her 1st writing, ie her BIOGRAPHY. It amazed me, as I'm going through it. She described simply about her fighting in life, from so many hurdles, even suffered in pshycic disease, having a very good, intelligent student. I became surprised about her mental strength, strong will power, which helped to ignore all difficulties & to proceed for new sunny sky in her life. Now She lives in Bangalore with her co-operative husband & two beautiful kids. I respect, love her very much. Everyone should read it to learn that, its a man/woman, not any other animals in the World, able to do, what he/she wants. Praying Preety's long life with sound health.

  10.  It's OK - nothing more, nothing less 9 October, 2013 On Junglee.com
I bought this book on sale, for a ridiculously low price, and I'm honestly glad that I did not pay the full price. I mean the book is not bad, it's actually pretty fast pacing, the language and grammar are good, the story itself is not that bad, but this book is definitely not suitable for "advanced" and more demanding readers.
This story is about a young, smart and talented girl called Ankita and her experiences with college life. Love, break ups, friends, conservative families, hopes and dreams....well, for the most part, the usual ups and downs of a young Indian girl. The aspect I found interesting about this book was the subject of bipolar disease and its impacts on one's life. I liked the way Preeti Shenoy introduced her readers to this disorder and tried to make them understand what a bipolar person goes through. I also appreciate the fact that the author used simple and contemporary language which has a potential to attract young readers and to promote books reading in general.
