Overview: Can Love Happen Twice?

'Can Love Happen Twice?' is the sequel to Ravinder's first novel 'I too Had a Love Story'. It follows the author's journey after the unfortunate and untimely demise of his girlfriend. If the first book was all about how he fell in love for the first time and lost it as unexpectedly as it had come into his life; his second book is about him finding answers to the questions that may come to the f0re if he ever experiences the same thing, ever again. The sequel has found equal appreciation and love from his readers, who feel that they are sharing this journey with him. 'Can Love Happen Twice?' soon became a bestseller after its release; and continues to remain on top of the charts.

Summary of the Book

The story starts with the introduction of four best friends, Happy, Amardeep, Manpreet and Ravin having to attend a radio talk show in Chandigarh. The setting is Valentine's Day and their show is supposed to be a much awaited event. Everybody reaches the radio station on time but Ravin. They begin to wonder what may have happened to keep him away from such an occasion. Soon, word spreads that his girlfriend has died in a road accident.

Ravin is shattered and goes into depression. He knows that he has to get away from everything that reminds him of his late girlfriend and decides to take up a job in Belgium. Luck smiles on him in the form of Simar, who's doing her MBA there. They keep bumping into each other and eventually the underlying attraction gives way to love. They decide to get married but then history repeats itself by throwing difficult situations at Ravin.

What are the circumstances that cloud his relationship with Simar? Will they separate or will their relationship stand the test of time? Or is Ravin headed for yet another heartbreak? All the answers are in the book in an extremely engaging manner.

  1.  A big disappointment!! 30 April, 2014 On Junglee.com
I finished this book just a couple of days back. The story is stale and I can not make out what does the author wants to convey. I doubt if Ravin(the character) is actually a human being because the way he behaves for a girl is hard to digest. After the success of Chetan Bhagat there has been a row of Indian writers who wants to join the same league and even try to copy his style of writing. But unfortunately most of these writers fail to write a story in which you can see yourself. For example, 'Can Love Happen Twice?' tells you about a boy who is mentally unstable and can not live without a damn girl. 'Ok, I get it, it's true love but its impractical and impossible for a person to behave like that.' (By person, I mean a man/boy.) The story once again (umpteenth time) describes the sweet romances that the protagonist and his girlfriend share. But what the hell is different about it. 'I too had a love story' also had the same plot. The only notable difference is that in 'I too..' the girl dies in an accident and in 'Can love..' the boy meets with an accident but unfortunately survives. I have been sick of being served the same old dish in new packages. Nothing new about it. Moreover the kind of an emotional freak Ravin has been portrayed , I even doubt if he is a man. The one piece of an advice for budding Indian writers I can give is 'Enough of the same old repetative love stories. Write something new.' And people like Ravin, get a life for yourself.
If you are really craving for a good read and a romantic one,Go try Nicholas Sparks. Or maybe Erich Segal.

For all the people who cried after reading it- 'You are sick. Go, get a doctor.'
The book totally wastes of Time & Money.......do not buy this.

  2.  Live the second life... 27 March, 2014 On Junglee.com
Of course, this is Ravin’s life… narrated in his own magical words and OUGHT to be great..! Throughout this tale, he has kept the grip on the narration and as usual never failed to grab the reader into the stream to sail along…! I just finished reading this novel and could not resist sharing my views…
The way the story unfolds, and how it goes on further to bring happiness back into Ravin’s life is stupendously illustrated. You just “Witness” how both Ravin and Simar’s love for each other grow (at times you better feel “not to” also ). However, as the story flows into the bottleneck episodes you are forced to take a Stand on who you support… one more thing which I found irresistible is that the comparison of characteristics of both Kushi and Simar… you will find that you could not get from Simar the same soothing experience what Kushi provided…
Though the chapters towards end sounded a little melodramatic, I am sure this will prove to be a good reading providing some deep insights into the emotional quotient of what is love and how this ‘magical feeling’ should be approached to have a win-win ending…
Go ahead and Read it… enjoy it..

  3.  Yes for Second 18 November, 2013 On Junglee.com
For all those who wonder about the title of the book, the answer is a sure shot “YES”, after reading this book.
The prologue is one of the best I have come across till date. Anyone who read the author’s first book “I Too Had a Love Story” would not want to read another love story for a long time, just to cherish the profound emotions laden in that book.

Ravin, after being devastated with the sudden tragic end of his passionate love story, wherein his girl friend Kushi dies in a road accident, was just slowly coping up with his regular life after about a year and half. Just then, he takes up an software assignment in Belgium, to have a change in the environment and the people around. There in Belgium, he comes across a beautiful girl called Simar, a rich pampered Punjabi girl, pursuing her MBA, which slowly unfolds into friendship. The same blossoms into Love, which Ravin would not be able to believe in the beginning, as Kushi, was still fresh in his mind. The sheer beauty, behavior, mannerism and innocence of Simar stumps the love starved Ravin and both fall in fervent love with each other. Simar, though is aware of Ravin’s first love story, sees an ardent lover in him and both of them ultimately decide to marry after she completes her education in Belgium. The problem starts here…Simar, being a career oriented and pampered girl, wants an independent life with Ravin away from his family, which Ravin could not digest. Despite trying to convince her many times, she gets quite adamant about her decision and one fine day calls off her relationship with him. Ravin, once again is shell shocked with the turn of the events, gets into deep depression, loses his job and cuts off from the world mentally and physically. His friends Manpreet, Happy and Amardeep comes to know of this second tragedy in Ravin’s love life and get him admitted to a Rehabilitation Centre in Shimla, where is being treated for a Major Depressive Disorder.
All this story is written again by Ravin in a book form but could not publish it, as he meets with an accident in his depressed state, just before getting admitted at Shimla. This unfinished book is picked up by his friends and they read it, on a famous “live show” of a popular radio station of Chandigarh, on Valentine’s Day, which becomes a spectacular super hit episode across the world, heard with utmost curiosity by millions of his fans, live.
Simar, was made to be one among the live audience, cleverly, by one of his friends Happy.
Simar realizes her mistake after listening to Ravin’s story from his side and comes back to him, forever.
Though the story was with a happy ending, the emotional aspect of Ravin’s second love story could not carry the reader to the heights of his previous experience of his first book, probably because the attachment of Ravin with Kushi was perceived to be stronger than that with Simar. The author should have included better touching scenes for better results. Good one for true lovers and all the best to the author for his next love track.
BTW if one wants to know about “Butterfly Kiss”, find it inside this book.

My rating of this book is 3.25

  8.  Love 3 January, 2014 On Junglee.com
I have read both books of Ravinder Singh. And now i can say that "I too had a love story" is far better than "Can love happen twice?" In the end CLHT was little boring. I can surely say that this book was not based on reality like the first one. Still i can recommend this book for one read. But please don't miss out the I too had a love story.

  10.  A drag to the previous book 25 January, 2014 On Junglee.com
I bought this book to quench my reading thirst which emerged by the author's first book. This books just drag the story of previous book and the story seems to be superficial many-a-times. The story line of the book is in Belgium and the scenic beauty described is the only good thing I found. Rest story is all assumable.
