Overview: The Magic Finger

The Magic Finger is about a little girl who can cast a magic spell on anyone who makes her angry and on those who hurt animals. The combination of Roald Dahl, the famous story teller and Quentin Blake, the well-known illustrator, has lent a distinctive magic to the book.

The story begins with a girl who has the Gregg family as her neighbour. All the members of the Gregg family are die-hard duck hunters, much to the displeasure of the little girl. When her anger overcomes her, her little magic finger turns the Greggs' arms into wings and the wings of ducks into arms. The Greggs are converted to, small people with wings and forced to live in nests. The ducks in turn, develop hands and start using hunting guns on the Gregg family.
Specially written for children between 8 and 12 years of age, the narrative of this book is simple and easy.

The central theme revolves around animal rights and to sensitise children towards it.

The fantasy aspect of the story will keep young readers spell-bound.

Roald Dahl has written many other books for children, such as The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, The Enormous Crocodile, George's Marvellous Medicine, The Twits and Esio Trot. Most of his children's stories are illustrated by Quentin Blake. Dahl has also contributed immensely to adult fiction, and his works include My Uncle Oswald, Sometime Never:A Fable of Supermen. His other works include film scripts and plays.
