  1.  Not a "Yet another Indian Saga" 5 February, 2012 On
There are arguments on the exact location of Malgudi. In my opinion, Malgudi is a synonym for any Indian village.

There is the local tea shop, the banyan tree, the temple, the snake charmer, the farmers, the poor, the rich, the bangalows, their gardens, the gardeners, the local school, kids, elders, families, their pets, the job-seekers, the tricksters, the dead and the living.

And...all of them have a role to play, a story to say.

A great narrative. R.K.Narayan wrote it well before writers and movie makers started selling "Indyeah" and its stories.

A book to be read, a village to be visited.

  2.  I wish I could visit this village 29 March, 2013 On
Opposed to my feeling about short stories from my school days English course books, I started loving short stories after reading this book.

Each story, each character, each landscape that R.K. Narayan creates comes to life in just the first line where he introduces it.
The best thing about these short stories is that you will be able to relate each character to a person that you have met in real life. So, reading this book feels like reading about your teacher, your neighbor, your sister your friend, your nearby river side, marketplace or your house.
