Mary Kom is a biographical Hindi drama directed by Omung Kumar in 2014. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this biopic is about Olympic bronze medallist and five-times World Boxing Champion Mary Kom. A commercial film, the movie had a strong screenplay by Saiwyn Quadras. Priyanka Chopra essays the role of boxer Mary Kom eloquently, while Darshan Kumar plays the role of her supportive husband, Onler Kom. The movie is special in many ways and has rocketed the life of the otherwise little known Mary, into media and limelight. Priyanka even debuted as a playback singer for a lullaby called "Chaoro" in this movie. The movie begins with a pregnant Kom being taken to the hospital amidst a curfew. Thereon, it moves into flashback as to how little Mary, born as Mangte Chungeijang Kom gets attracted to boxing, after finding a pair of gloves in the remains of an air crash. Her father highly disapproves of her passion for the sport while she decides to train under the best coach, keeping her father in the dark about it. Coach Narjit Singh accepts her as his student only after getting convinced about her grit and determination to pursue in this men's domain. Kom goes on to win several world championships, reconciles with her upset father and finally decides to get married to Onler. Upset with her decision coach Narjit moves away from her life. Seeing a depressed Mary who's badly missing boxing, Onler prompts her to go back to the ring, and rest is history.
