The Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is the flagship phone of Micromax under the Canvas series. This is a 3D smartphone at a price point that is never heard of before.
Design and build
This phone incorporates the phablet form factor, which the A110 Canvas 2 is known for. Broad and bulky, the phone is definitely a stellar attraction. Dominating the front is the 5" screen. Below the display are three capacitive touch screens. A metallic frame runs around the phone. The rear is protected by a black cover with matte finish.
The 5" screen supports 16.7 million colours. The capacitive touch screen sports 480 x 800 pixels resolution. The screen supports naked-eye 3D. This means you don't have to wear special 3D glasses to view 3D content. The screen is ingrained with the parallax barrier technique to create the perception of depth. The result is a 3D effect that can be viewed with the naked eye. The parallax barrier technology is achieved by another screen that overlays the display. The gap is filled with special material. This material directs light in a way such that an illusion of depth is created.
Software and interface
Running on the Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system, the user interface is improvised with the addition of app icons. Even the notification section (tray) and the settings menu is improved. The latter has toggles for configuring Wi-Fi, Rotation, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. Like other Android devices, this one has 5 customisable home screens that you can fill with app shortcuts and widgets.
Micromax has pre-loaded some of its own apps including M! Store, which is the content store. Also included is the M! Zone, which is the services store. Friends locator app lets you connect with strangers near you. Games such as Battleship Connect4, Fruit Devil and The Dark Man gives you enough entertainment.
You can take quality pictures in day light with the 5 MP camera. Use the 3D still capture mode of the camera app to capture photos and create a 3D effect. You can refer the 3D Guide app to read about how to shoot a 3D picture. Also included as part of the camera's feature list is panoramic shot, HDR options and continuous mode, which allows you to shoot close to 100 pictures at a go.
