Overview: Modern Classics Ways of Seeing

'Ways of Seeing' is one of the most powerful and engaging books on art. This book is based on the BBC TV series 'Ways of Seeing' which was created in 1972. This TV series was a highly successful TV series and this book also received the same positive reception by readers. This book is written by John Berge with the help of Richard Hollis, Michael Dibb, Chris Fox and Sven Blomberg. The book shows a unique and sterling perspective of looking at art and also criticizes the traditional Western cultural aesthetics through a series of questions that point towards hidden ideologies in visual images. 'Ways of Seeing' is an ideal and a mandatory book for everyone who loves art and eventually life.

This highly influential book on art is written in form of essays. There are total seven essays in this book which talk about the various nuances of art. The book suggests that our ways of perception are less spontaneous than generally assumed, manipulated by numerous external factors and dependent on cultural conventions. This book at the same time serves as a history, theory and criticism book. The author points at the deception of women in advertisements and oil paintings and eventually contributes to the feminist readings of popular culture.

John Berger is a multi-facet English artist who is a art critic, painter, novelist and poet. He received his education from St Edward's School, an independent school for boys in Oxford. He has won several notable awards including the Booker Prize, Petrarca-Preis Award, and Golden PEN Award. Some of his famous books include A Painter of Our Time, Permanent Red, Poems on the Theatre, and The Foot of Clive.
