Overview: At the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft

This Halcyon Classics ebook is H. P. Lovecraft's lost world horror thriller AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS.<br><br>On an expedition to Antarctica, Professor William Dyer and his colleagues discover the remains of ancient half-vegetable, half-animal life-forms. The extremely early date in the geological strata is surprising because of the highly-evolved features found in these previously unkown life-forms. Through a series of dark revelations, violent episodes, and misunderstandings, the group learns of Earth's secret history and legacy.<br><br>Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American author of horror, fantasy and science fiction, especially the subgenre known as weird fiction. As early as the 1940s, Lovecraft's work had developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fiction featuring a pantheon of humanity-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. Stephen King called Lovecraft "the twentieth century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale."<br><br>This unexpurgated edition contains the complete text, with minor errors and omissions corrected.<br>

  1.  Interesting book by the master of horrors 26 December, 2013 On Junglee.com
    Plot:
A university team uncovers horrors during a geologic expedition in the Antarctic.

    Review-
Though H.P. Lovecraft may not be as widely know as authors like Poe, he is very influential in the horror genre. A desire to expand my literary background prompted me to read this novella. It is incredibly dry and technical, which I believe will deter some readers, but it is infinitely interesting and the imagery is vivid. I found it a little hard to read, but I am curious enough to read more of his works
