ByValue for money ... but with some shortcomings 24 April, 2013I had bought this more than a year back to gift to my sister. (bought it for Rs.8800/- - the price has not changed much since then). It is a good QWERTY phone with 3G capability (although video calling is not supported). The UI is not bad - standard Symbian.
Pros : Good quality build - the back plate is made of metal !. It has the sturdy build that Nokia mobiles have always been known for. Screen quality is pretty good...quite good for a sub 10k phone. The UX is quite responsive...no lags when browsing through images in the gallery. If you are used to the Symbian OS/UI, the E5 is easy to adapt to.
The hardware qwerty keyboard is probably the biggest factor that makes it easy to use the E5, particularly when typing long SMSes or Emails. The battery backup too is awesome - in this regard E5 beats any Android phone hands down !!!
Cons ; Being Symbian, the kind of app ecosystem you get does not match up to Android or iOS. The camera is a 5 megapixel one, but the quality of pictures is not very good. Other 5MP Nokia phones like N97 or the 3.2 MP N73 give much better picture quality. E5 photo quality is probably bad because its camera lacks auto-focus. Another big miss is the lack of front camera - so no video chat is possible. There are other obvious shortcomings like smaller screen and lack of touchscreen - but those are clear in the feature list itself...so I am not elaborating them here.
All in all..not a bad phone for the price. If you are not too much into exploring new apps or gaming on your phone and are looking for a no nonsense reliable phone with a good battery back, the E5 is still a good bet.Was this review helpful to you?
