'Bhagavad Gita', the programme is an outcome of a profound yearning of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam to express to the world in a concrete form the abstract philosophy of our unparalleled Hindu contribution to humanity . She performs both as Krishna and Arjuna in her usual Banika style. She has given form and shape to the 18 chapters and composed the programme as consisting of four sequences.

Dr.Padma gives a bird's eye view of the content of Gita utilising 78 out of 700 slokas from the original text in Sanskrit. She hopes that her theatrical presentation of the Bhagavad Gita would inspire the spectator to know in depths about the Hindu culture. The special features of the CD include Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam's anecdotes and commentaries in five languages namely English, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu.

The compilation, music and choreography is done by Dr. Padma Subramanyam, vocals and Nattuvangam by Dr. Gayathri Kannan, Vocal Support by Vidya Kalyanaraman, Mridangam by K.S Sudhaman , Veena and Suddha Maddalam by B.Kannan, Violin by T.S Babu and Flute by C.P. Venkatesh. The series of 7 DVD collections in this series are Bhagavad Gita, Krishnaya Tubhyam Namahah, Ramaya Tubhyam Namaha, Jaya Jaya Sankara, Meenakshi Kalyanam, Sangaman, Paripadal Mudhal Bharathi Varai.

About the Director

Dr Padma Subrahmanyam was born on 4th of February 1943 in Chennai and is a renowned Indian classical Bharatnatyam dancer. Also a research scholar, choreographer, music composer, musician, teacher and author, she is a known face abroad and several films and documentaries have been made in her honour in counties like Japan, Australia and Russia. Dr Padma is well known as the developer and founder of the dance form 'Bharata Nrithyam and has a bachelor's degree in Music, a Master's degree in Ethnomusicology, as well as a Ph.D. in Dance.

Along with authoring many articles, research papers, and books and she has also served as a non-official member of the Indo-Sub-commission for education and culture. She has received numerous awards and honours including 'Padmashri' in 1981. 'Padma Bhushan' in 2003 which are one of the highest civilian awards in India.She has also received 'Nehru Award' (1983) from the Soviet Union and Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize from Japan, for "her contribution to development and harmony in Asia" .

The CD was published on January 1 , 2008 and comes in a DVD format for all regions. The DVD falls in the genre of music videos and concerts and has a runtime of 243 minutes. Dr Padma Subrahmanyam is the actor , director while the CD has been produced by Swathisoft. The DVD comes with a one disc and has a U (Universal) censor rating. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this DVD goes to Bharatamuni Foundation for Asian Culture.

    This D.V.D Ntritya sapthaham by alegend dancer Padmasubramanyam shows us her dedicated fond towards hindumythology.Bhagavadgitha is sacred to hindus.It reveals the philosophy of life .Lord krishna preaches it to Arjuna when he is reluctant to kill his cousins,grand fatherBhisma and gurus.InthisD.V.D padmasubramanyam enacted both roles skilfullyHer dedication towards preseting this D.V.D should be honoured.Every hindu must see this.
