Product Description

Rang De Basanti is a 2007 movie. The name itself implies the patriotism this movie is based on and it is taken from an old song which was created by Ram Prasad Bismil is associated to Bhagat Singh and his eventual martyrdom during English rule in India.

In a manner similar to the independence struggle, the movie revolves around a group of friends studying in Delhi University and enjoying their lives until one day when one of them who is an Air Force pilot is killed while flying a defective Boeing jet.

Soha Ali Khan who is the bride to be of the pilot R Madhavan is devastated upon his death. After so many silent protests and candle marches when the authorities pay no attention and don't wish to bring justice to these young lives who are sacrificed for nothing, Soha evokes her friends into plotting a revenge against the corrupt politicians on India who bought the inferior quality parts and planes and got numerous precious soldiers killed in turn.

In the background you will see the freedom fighters impersonating the young modern day students who are keen to take revenge for their friend's death. The friends plan to assassinate a cet minister who is responsible for buying the jets despite knowing their inferior quality and their faulty mechanism. On an especially bright day, two of them tracks down the minister out of his house and shoot him dead.

After being announced as fugitives and being chased by the police, the whole group decides to take shelter in a radio station where they manage to convey their message to the masses that they are not just some killers seeking money or power. They are the modern day freedom fighters who want to save the country from the filth the politicians have become and that no country can survive if its youth is as blind as ours is. Moreover, the movie provokes a feeling of intense patriotism and the sense of belonging to a country where people ended their lives happily and voluntarily to bring forth a revolution to expel the British out and to make the country a free place for others to live.

The background comparison with the independence struggle gives you a notion that the only difference between then and now is that the enemy is not an outsider anymore, it is within us now. We are the ones who can bring a real independence to this country. It also gives you the idea that a bunch of poor excuse for human being politicians can rule us only till our youth is sleeping, once it is awake no one can stand in its way. That the revolution is long pending and it is time to wake up and take matters in your hands.

Of course, all the friends are shot dead at the end by the police but the message is spread, literally and figuratively. A must watch movie and when its blu ray, you just can't resist buying it.

  1.  Worth Watching 4 April, 2014 On
Watched the movie during my college days, when no one cared about whats going on in and around us.Movie really makes you think about things which you have never thought of doing.
Movie starts with bunch of friends who are happy in their own world and everything changes when one of the friend gets killed in plane crash who works for Indian Air Force.
Rest of the group gets shattered with the irresponsible politicians who were in turn responsible for the poor quality jets.
The movie takes a turn with killing of the politician responsible for the lives of young soldiers of country and in turn the whole group gets assassinated by the police.
All the incidents are nicely roped with the pre independence efforts of brave freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev , Azad which brings a feel of patriotism.
Music is refreshing and the Amir Khan can be seen at his best.
