About Romi and Gang

Going back to those childhood days is always such a great idea. WE often wonder why those tender years ended so fast and how our lives took a complete new shape as we started growing. Keeping this point in mind Tushar Raheja enables us to explore our childhood days once again Romi and his friends, their obsession for cricket and all the new experiences they encounter during those days. Cricket is a very popular sport in India and statistically, eight out of ten children in India dream of becoming a cricketer when they grow up. This book is a treat to the readers, especially pre to early teenagers just because of one reason, cricket. Another good thing about the novel is that the book is filled with illustrated sketches throughout which give you a visual feel to the story, a treat for all the young readers.

The story primarily revolves around four friends - Romi, Sunny, Sukhi and Golu and their love and immense passion for the game of cricket. Just as cricket is a team game, they also learn that cricket not just only teaches you to play for your team on the field, but off the field as well. It's like holding your forte for the team as when your team needs your services. Apart from the four central characters that the author portrays, the other characters in the story also have a significant impact on the storyline, be it the parents, the wicked principle, their innocent female interests or the teachers and the umpires officiating the cricket matches.

The story is very realistic and can be related to children of almost every household in India. Older readers will thrive on reliving their nostalgic days while reading this book. In an incregly gadget oriented environment these days, where even the growing kids are more fond of video and computer games, this book comes across as a soothing effect to the mind and body of everyone. And the best part is, the pleasure could be all yours by paying a negligible price at where we are giving a hefty discount on the original price. So what are you waiting for? Just indulge yourself into the plot and relive the innocent enthusiasm you once enjoyed in your early teens. The book is really fun to read, published by the Pirates publishing house.

And the author :

Tushar Raheja, the young author of the novel is well acclaimed for his debut novel 'Anything for you Maa'm, which was a massive hit among the masses. The novel was well appreciated all over and got overwhelming reviews from The Hindu and The Times of India, The Hindu even comparing his style of writing to that of P.G. Wodehouse. The author is B.Tech in Industrial Engineering from IIT Delhi and Master of Science in Operations research. Presently, he is carrying out his PhD in Applied Probability from IIT Delhi.

And not to forget the sketches by Biswajit Das, who has spiced up the plot even more through his innovative, yet witty pictorial illustrations. Book your copy now and just immerse yourself.

  1.  A simple story. Nothing exception but liked it nevertheless 31 August, 2013 On
The book has a very different feel to it and the pencil sketch illustrations bring the story to life. There are full page illustrations as well as small tiny stamp size ones through out the book and I would love to drop an email to the illustrator/artist - Biswajit Das - regarding his work. Nothing exceptional again but he has infused life into the written words of Tushar and that itself is noteworthy.

The novel is but a simple story of a school kid who loves cricket and his close friends. The story is about learning the true meaning of the game – it is not about the century you claim, its about your standing at the crease holding fort for your team.
As you read the story, you discover the nature and character of the 4 kids amidst the school time innocence and mischief.

They grow through the story (not in age, but in character and strength). They learn lessons of life. Even the character of Romi's father is shown as a very strong one in a very subtle manner. None of the characters are over-glorified. Each one gets their space and due importance. In some ways, it reminded me of Lagaan - parallels being cricket and the importance given to all characters rather than focusing on Amir alone.

In this story too, Romi is NOT the HERO. He is one of the 4 central characters who have a strong and realistic supporting cast of parents, teachers, bad-ass principle, female interests, childhood innocence and perspective. The writing style is the hero here ...

The story is nothing exceptional or fast paced or thrilling … it is a simple story which touches you in some ways. I enjoyed reading it
