Overview: Sahara: The Untold Story

Sahara: The Untold Story written by Tamal Bandyopadhyay will tell you everything that you want to know about the Sahara India Pariwar or Mr. Subrata Roy. Sahara: The Untold Story is a book that is the result of painstaking research on the legal battle that is being fought with the market regulator with the purpose of demystifying a largely unlisted and also the most secretive conglomerate in India - the Sahara India Pariwar.

As the creator of the group and the guardian angel for everybody of the Parivar, Subrata Roy had a goal of reaching out to a million lives, which he felt is being continuously thwarted and impeded by the regulation since Sahara was set up in the year 1978. This clash with the market regulators was simply inevitable and every time one door was slammed closed by the regulators, maverick Roy kept opening up another and this is a game that is being continued till today.

Roy, always a well-known personality for his associations with politicians, film stars and cricketers of the country, is also quite popular for exuding patriotism. In a country where only 35% of the total population has access to formal banking, Subrata Roy has made himself a Robin Hood, who is being admired and almost worshipped by millions of poor and illiterate depositors from rural and semi-urban areas across the country. However, the question is-- aren't those poor lot also exploited by him? This book will be giving you a clear view of the entire picture. It is divided into four parts, giving the reader a chance to go through the entire process of growth creation and development that has made the Sahara India Pariwar reach its present position.

  1.  A must read 2 August, 2014 On
Like most I have always wondered how Mr Roy came to the position he is today. The news articles and Sahara ads were of no use since it was always flattery of financial news.

This book by Bandopadhay on the other hand gives the rich details on the group and how it got into the trouble it is today. Perhaps he will have to come out with a part ii sequel in the future since the story is yet unfinished.

  2.  Eagerly waiting for the book launch 7 June, 2014 On
Tamal B., I have read your previous book on HDFC bank which is just an amazing writing. Really hoping for the same par or better writing than that. And it is much more exciting to wait because now the work is on "The Sahara Family". I really want to know about the family, how can someone build such a huge empire without getting their company listed. Highly astonishing and inspiring.
