Overview: Scandal Point

Scandal Point, a commercial literary fiction, is Fahad Samar's debut novel. It unravels the gossips of Bollywood and is a satire on peoples' preoccupation with the scandals of the glamour world, than on the celebrities. According to the writer, the book is also a comment on our obsession with scandals and sensationalism. Fahad Samar has written, directed and produced numerous documentaries, commercials, corporate films and TV shows like those of Superhit Muqabla, BPL OYE and The Poppadum Show. He is a social commentator and his essays have appeared in Harpers Bazaar, Elle and with other publications too. The Scandal Point book was published by Harper Collins, on the 11th of September, 2013.

The story in Scandal Point book is based on two protagonists, who come from totally different backgrounds. Both belong to well-off families. One of them is Ricky Kumar, who is the son of a superstar and preparing for his own Bollywood launch. The other protagonist is London-based Gautam Goyal, son of a wealthy restaurant tycoon. Everything seems to be fine with Ricky Kumar and his life, till Gautam crosses his path. Through a series of events, Gautam is pitted against Ricky. Fahad Samar has developed the plot on the basis of mistaken identity. While Gautam is a thrill-seeking drug-addict, Ricky is a shy, mama's boy. As the story progresses, media is shown as the third player in the story. The book is at the same time funny and intriguing, with a series of twists and turns on the way. Samar, being a Bollywood insider, uses his knowledge about life in the tinsel town, in this novel. All of the characters the protagonists, directors, businessmen, actresses - are based on real people, though disguised in some way or the other. In the end, the readers will be bound to think about the different real-world celebrities, whom the characters represent.
