Overview: Self-Deception: India's China Policies Origins

This book, written by Arun Shourie, makes for a fascinating read about the Indo-China relations around 1962 and what mistakes the famous Pandit Nehru made that led to the devastating war of 1962. The book is a straightforward opinion of the writer regarding the events that led to the Indo-Chine war. The book answers questions such as Why Pandit Nehru was confident that China would not invade India, or why he had neglected the warnings from the borders, or whether or not these same mistakes are happening again.

The book is a detailed analysis of the Indian policies at that time, regarding China, and how the country should have learnt a few lessons from those mistakes. Included in this book are letters, speeches and all other forms of correspondence between Nehru and his officers as well as letters to Chief Ministers that throw light on these events.

Arun Shourie was born in 1941, into a small, close-knit family in town of Jalandar. Having written many exposés for the Indian Express, he has uncovered corruption in the highest levels of the government and has been responsible in exposing multiple scandals, as well. He is an Indian Journalist, Author, and Politician and has served as an economist with the World Bank. He has been a consultant in the planning commission, was the editor of the Times of India as well as the Indian Express in his lifetime. He was a minister in the Government of India for the term of 1998-2004 and was also awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1982. This stunning book of his gives the reader behind the scenes look as to what exactly was happening in the government before and during the war of 1962. The book is available online with the ISBN-10 number of 9351160939 and the ISBN-13 number of 978-9351160939.
