  1.  An ode to ‘Ship of Theseus’ 9 June, 2014 On
‘Ship of Theseus’ isn’t a movie. It’s a visual poetry. It’s a flowing philosophy. Heck, it’s your inner voice. It’s a kind of experience which you stumble upon perhaps once in a lifetime. An experience that changes the way you perceive the world around you and makes you ponder over questions left unanswered.

I used to quote actor Naseeruddin Shah by saying, ‘Films can never change the world. All it can change is the hairstyle’. Director Anand Gandhi proves Mr. Shah wrong, for ‘Ship of Theseus’ compels one to think, rethink and reaffirm his belief in the power of cinema. While the Kashyaps, Nairs, Bannerjees and Motwanes were musing on it, this man and his team just did it – revolutionize Indian cinema.

A single description of a particular scene would be a spoiler. A single potion of its hidden nuggets will be a blatant give-away. A review would be an unforgivable sin. A rating will be criminal.

So here’s an ode to ‘Ship of Theseus’:

When blind eyes are healed, and sight is restored,
Does the viewfinder remain the same?

When norms are questioned, and rules are doubted,
Does the faith remain the same?

When values are decayed, and compassion is ignored,
Does the wealth remain the same?

When organs are transplanted, and parts are changed,
Does the human remain the same?

When sails are changed, and oars are replaced,
Does the ship remain the same?

  2.  A peace journey between three stories 10 June, 2014 On
Anand Gandhi's first feature film. One among the story is that of a monk who has to choose between his belief and death. Second of a young photographer who gets his eye sight back and the last story that a stock broker who is fighting for the beggars. How these three stories merge and what would be the journey forward is the catch of this movie.

Amazing and mind blowing performances. A psychological journey with a high voltage climax.

Nice Intense movie 5 August, 2013 On
This movie is far from what we usually get to see in Bollywood...and yeah it is not likes of Anurag Kashyap or Dibakar Banerjee types.

The movie clearly outlines the philosophy on which the story is based and then articulates it with three strong short stories. They are no big names in the movie, the biggest hero in the movie is content, the thought provoking debate that characters have. You may get bored if you are not able to engage or relate with the content. It may resonate with your thinking if you have ever encountered A Ship of Theseus like situation in your life.
