Overview: Siddhartha

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse is a beautifully written and deeply personal story of self-discovery. The book based in the time of ancient India, details the story of Siddhartha, a young man's journey to enlightenment.

Siddhartha, despite having absorbed all the teachings of his father and followed all the rituals of his caste, he is not content. Due to his deep dissatisfaction, he decides to leave his family and with it, his bright future. Siddhartha's journey to enlightenment is long, he begins with a group of ascetics who shun worldly possessions, to a courtesan who teaches him the mysteries of physical love, to a wealthy merchant who teaches him about all the pleasures of the world. His journey finally comes back to where he started, a life of an ascetic.

During his journey, Siddhartha finds pearls of wisdom in everyone he interacts with and slowly inches closer towards enlightenment. With evocative narration, Hesse demonstrates through the protagonist's journey; the value that each and every person has, and all of us are important in some way.

The shortest Must-Read Book 25 July, 2013 On
Without giving away the plot - I could vouch for the book being an interesting, intense read.

How the book talks about the ground realities of life in less than 200 pages is awe-inspiring! What you take away at the end of the book is how ultimately life comes a full circle, irrespective of where you start and what you do!

However, the book is anything but philosophical, over-the-head or surreal. You can just pick up the book, enjoy your hot mug of coffee and appreciate the depth of the story without being overwhelmed by it.

Hope you enjoy it as well!

  2.  Enlightment & Inspiration takes the toll 2 April, 2013 On
Though the first chapter "The Brahmin's Son" (of Part one) will lead you like written with dictionary referenced wordings.......but as you go on's a real piece of enlightment and inspiration (altogether)........I won't call it beautifully written......but written in such an arranged manner......that you real one paragraph within 2 mins and think about it (referencing with your personal life and thoughts) the other five minutes.......deserves being the bestseller......people 'in need of TRUE HAPPINESS', 'EASILY BORED', 'need MENTAL SUPPORT', 'seeking for a piece of well written LITERATURE' should grab the same at once........the paper quality is fine-tuned with the literature style (offering yu a vedic sence)..........((^_^))
