Product Description

The Sins of the Father is the second novel in the seven book series 'The Clifton Chronicles,' written by renowned English author Jeffrey Archer. This book follows the first book of the series 'Only Time Will Tell' and traces the life of the main protagonist Harry Clifton as he considers his future after a spate of tragedies.

About the book

The book opens with Harry Clifton having joined the British Navy to fight the Germans during World War II. Shortly thereafter, his battleship is sunk by the Germans into the Atlantic Ocean, with most of the crew drowned. Harry is rescued by Tom Bradshaw, third officer on an American Cruise Liner. Soon after rescuing Harry, Tom dies, and Harry assumes his identity to resolve some of his personal issues. But on reaching New York, Harry finds out that Tom is being tried for murdering his brother. He ends up in jail serving Tom's sentence, in spite of Sefton Jelks, one of the top lawyers in Manhattan, fighting his case. Once Harry is sentenced to prison, Sefton Jelks disappears mysteriously. To prove his innocence, Harry must reveal his true identity but decides against doing so to protect Emma, the woman he loves.

Harry's struggles to prove his innocence and Emma's struggles to uncover the truth form the crux of this story with family loyalties stretched, and many secrets unraveled.

Its a unanimously a best seller. the game goes on and on and time flies away like flowing water, the readers reach a different world, jeffery archer's world. as we proceed further the plot thickens and the number of enemies increase while the readers are cutt off from all the miseries and tention 2012 has to give them.

  2.  Nowhere close to Archer's best works 3 April, 2013 On
If you're thinking of purchasing this book, make sure that you've already read 'Only time will tell' by the same author. This book, 'The Sins of the father' is the second in Jeffrey Archer's 'Clifton Chronicles'.

I may have made a mistake in my assessment of the book's quality, partly because I tend to compare every one of Archer's works to 'Kane and Abel' and, truth be said, none of his other books are even remotely close. Although 'Sins of the father' may not be as gripping, it is definitely a good book to read.

Here are few of reasons why I feel that the book could've been better:

    a) Towards the end of the book, you realize that the only question that you've been searching answer for : ("Is Harry really Emma's half-brother ?") still remains unanswered. If we're to believe the rumors, this question will only be answered in the fifth and final book of the Clifton series (that's waiting for 2 more books to be released).

    b) [SPOILER ALERT] If you've read the prequel to this book, you might be able to remember the letter that Harry wrote to his mother from the ship. Harry (under the name of Tom Bradshaw), having been arrested in the US, the letter is the only evidence for his mother that her son is still alive. But, hey there! Welcome to Archer's world. The mom decides to keep this letter unopened in memory of her dead son. I was so damn irritated whenever there used to be a mention of this letter that I felt like shouting, "Hey mom. why don't you freaking open the letter and read it ?". I usually like it when there is an element of suspense for the reader, but this is just the other way round..But then, that's me!
