In the book, the author narrates that Dana Evans realises and suspects that the accidents that led to the death of the Winthrop family members one after the other were planned murders. Dana Evans starts to look for clues that can lead her to the murderer. She understands one thing that whoever the killer was, he was definitely not after the money. The family's inheritance has been given to the charity. Why would anyone kill the members of the royal family, who were well-known for their charitable services to the society and believed not to have any enemies? If not money, what did the murderer want?

Like many other Sidney Sheldon novels, this novel is also woman-centric. In this novel Dana Evans has been shown as a charismatic, brave, and young correspondent. She can do whatever it takes to solve a mystery or unravel a case.

Dana Evans had adopted Kemal, a boy whom she met in the Sarajevo. Kemal has lost his parents in the war. Due to the bombing in the war, Kemal has lost one of his arms. Kemal is very dear to Dana. He goes to a school where other students bully him. He faces a rough time in the school. Meanwhile Dana is busy looking for clues. Her instincts warn her that the murderer who planned the brutal killings of the royal family members had framed the murders so that they could look like natural deaths to the world. But where is the killer hiding?

Dana's investigation takes her to different parts of the world. She eventually reaches Russia. She meets Sasha Shdandoff, a military official. Sasha leads her to Krasnoyarsk-26, a closed town that was set for creating plutonium that is used to manufacture nuclear weapons. She came to know that more than a hundred technicians and scientists were employed in the hidden city. She also comes to know that the plant cannot be shut down as it keeps the city warm, else the people of the city will die of cold. Sasha tells Dana that Taylor Winthrop business associate killed him. He wanted to acquire all the plutonium. Who can this business associate be? Can Dana uncover the mystery of the hidden city and the massacred royal family?
