Overview: The Story of My Experiments with Truth: An Autobiography

One of the most widely read autobiographies of all times; this book was originally penned by Mahatma Gandhi, in his native language Gujarati. The book is written in very simple language, and the story telling is uncomplicated. It gives us an insight into one of the greatest personalities and thinkers of the last century. In his own words, Gandhi describes his early life, the struggle with various typical youth related issues and his marriage to a child, Kasturba.

It talks about his journey as a young Barrister in South Africa, where we see the early signs of his greatness and beliefs as he stands up against the British and their wrongful attitude and treatment meted out to the blacks. We can learn from his first few trysts with seeking the truth amongst a highly political scenario and his courage, which was a revelation he has about his own thoughts and feelings on these sensitive topics.

Gandhi goes on to start searching for ways to remain true to his strong beliefs against what he finds disrespectful to mankind's dignity. He starts thinking and learning about an alternate way to live by self-purification and complete non-violence demonstrated by a strong spiritual self. His experiments with bringing to life his beliefs form the later part of his book and everywhere he is very clear about this being his personal and spiritual journey, as opposed to a political one.

There is no better book than this one to get a first hand view of this great man's thoughts, beliefs, approach to life and his growth as a human being leading him to be one of the leading personalities globally. In 1999, the book was designated as one of the 100 Best Spiritual Books of the 20th Century by a committee of global spiritual and religious authorities.

Gandhi is addressed as Mahatma worldwide and also called Bapu (means father in Gujarati). He was the preeminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India. Employing non-violent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. This paperback book is listed with the ISBN number of 9788171674589.
