Overview: The 3 Mistakes of My Life

Three Mistakes of My Life is a highly acclaimed novel by renowned Indian author Chetan Bhagat. The book tells the story of three youngsters who dream to succeed in their joint business venture. However, this happy tale about three friends trying to make it big is cut short by a myriad of unpleasant events.

Plot of the Novel

This book chronicles the lives of three best friends, Govind, Ish and Omi. The three young guys, hailing from the old city lanes of Ahmadabad, dream to succeed and attain fame. Short on resources, but big on aspirations, they set up a sports utility store and also start cricket coaching class for aspiring cricketers. Of the three, Govind is the most ambitious one and takes care of the store along with Ish. Omi gets finances in place for their business venture with the help of his affluent uncle. The trio set up their sports utility store in an upcoming mall, draining all their savings. However, the infamous 2001 Gujarat earthquake destroys their store and the building housing it, thereby denting a major blow to their hopes and aspirations. Govind starts concentrating on their cricket coaching class, while Omi gets busy in his uncle's party work. Ish starts taking tuition for Govind's younger sister and both of them fall for each other. The controversial 2002 Gujarat communal riots pull the once happy trio apart with politics, religion and love pushing them to the edge.

Three Mistakes of My Life beautifully captures the mindset of the Indian youth, highlighting their dreams, passions, beliefs and attitudes. The characters depicted in this novel are easily relatable with the twists and turns in the plot making this book an engaging read.

  2.  Excellent time killer!!! 25 March, 2014 On Junglee.com
This is the book made me a regular novel reader... Characters in this novel are very well framed and description of them are done in nice manner especially those three youngsters...You can see yourself in atleast one of them.. I liked that some of the social issues that happened in the past are quoted in this... you can feel the sufferings of people in gujarat during the earthquake and hindu muslim problem..Only thing that was scratching my head was that fastrack relationship between hero and heroine.. It is worth the money... It is recommended for those who wish to kill their boring moments during long travel...

  4.  you are reading a half-baked movie script, do not expect the novelties of a novel .... 30 May, 2014 On Junglee.com
The movie made on this book is so good, but the book itself was trash.
Never once, you feel connected with the protagonists, and you keep reading the book to anticipate the similarities with the Godhra riots.

The climax again is way too filmy.
Chetan bhagat should add a disclaimer to the book " you are reading a half-baked movie script, do not expect the novelties of a novel'.
