Overview: Twenties Girl

In Twenties Girl, Sophie Kinsella manages to conjure a more grounded, single Londoner, Lara Lington who after getting into a business with her best friend Natalie, is left to manage the entire establishment all by herself as Natalie who on a vacation in India falls in love with a Goan bloke and decides to never return to UK. Buy this interesting book and ensure yourself a good read for your road trip or a long weekend.

The plot goes Swayze-crazy à la Ghost when Lara Lington, is suddenly haunted by her just-deceased great-aunt Sadie who is on a mission to find her necklace that was given to her by her parents on her 21st Birthday. Sadie who shadows Lara from there on comes in handy to have around as she plays matchmaker, smooth's over muddled business dealings and messes with other people's minds for Lara's benefit. Along the way, vintage costumes are donned to great embarrassment, the Charleston is danced, Champagne is sipped and those who deserve it get their retribution in whacky fashion. Even that missing necklace is found.

But the best part comes at the end, when Lara returns the favour and cracks a mystery about her great-aunt's past that reveals her to be a far more complex and fragile creature than Sadie portrays to be.

Though Twenties Girl kicks off with a funeral, it ends on a satisfying note. Not only is it delightfully unexpected, but also credible and most well-conceived. Every single storyline follows out to wonderful conclusions. And Lara? Well, let's just say she looks smashing in Vintage.

Twenties Girl is the perfect book for a lazy weekend, and just might end up being responsible for a run on vintage twenties clothes.

Absolute Fun! 3 December, 2013 On
Twenties Girl is a love story and a mystery combined together. Lara Lington suddenly finds herself in the company of her great-aunt Sadie’s spirit. All Sadie wants from Lara is to find her dragonfly necklace as she is unable to ‘rest’ without it. This unlikely partnership provides for a very, very entertaining read. With a little bit of mystery, a dash of charm, and a generous sprinkling of fun, Sophie Kinsella’s Twenties Girl is a delightful story from start to end!
