Nandanar never had a happy childhood due to the extreme poverty in his family, and in Unnikkuttante Lokam, he depicts the concept of an ideal childhood. It is a novel about Unnikkuttan, a little, jovial boy who is happy about everything that is happening around him. Nandanar wrote three Unnikkuttan novels and these are Unnikkuttan Schoolil, Unnikkuttante Oru Divasam and Unnikkuttan Valarunnu. Unnikkuttante Lokam is a collection of these three novels. Unnikkuttan lives in Valluvanadan village and the three novels describe the wonders, mischief, happiness as well as sorrows that the little protagonist experiences. Nandanar shows how Unnikkuttan grows up amidst the natural world of trees, flowers, birds, animals, butterflies and other insects.
