Product Description

Untruly Yours is the first novel written by Indian writer Smita Shetty. This book follows the life of a married NRI woman who sets on a journey of self-discovery, after having spent years in happy matrimony.

About the book

The plot revolves around Natasha Iyer who, in the eyes of many, leads the perfect life. She is married to a well-respected US-based Indian psychologist, Rakesh, and the couple has an 11-year-old son. While the family looks perfectly happy from the outside, Natasha has started to experience an unexplainable dissatisfaction in her relationship with Rakesh. While Rakesh is seemingly oblivious to her wife's problems and is satisfied with life and family, Natasha seeks passion, romance and excitement from the relationship.

Natasha's life takes an unexpected turn when she gets a call from India, which leads to her embarking on a journey of self-discovery. She is accompanied for the journey by Steve, a strikingly handsome colleague from work. Visiting her native country after a long time, she discovers that even though urban India has evolved considerably in many aspects, some deep-rooted social issues still existed. During the trip, she also runs into an old friend Veer, who adds an element of nostalgia to her emotional ride.

After being a dedicated wife for several years, Natasha is not very comfortable and well-equipped to handle the romantic advances of both Steve and Veer. While dealing with the unexpected flirtation and seduction, Natasha has to take some hard calls so as to ensure that she does not lose control of her life.

I picked this book yesterday and finished reading it at one go. That’s simply because it is racy and pacy and absolutely hilarious. Also that it is a short story with 146 pages, helps to finish it fast as well.

I loved the humor in the book which gave me a lot of laugh out loud moments.

The book is about contemporary Indian society, so it talks about…
Facebook and it being full of narcissistic losers uploading flattering holiday and social pictures of themselves.
For the young urban city mothers, elaborate saris or salwar kameez and even more elaborate dotted foreheads have been replaced with tight jeans and tighter T-shirts.
Kitty parties : These all women group parties have upped their game in certain aspects, but the content and dress codes have remained the same.
Live in relationships is a progressive concept for Indian couples to discover the degree of their compatibility and experiment with fun and adventure before they settle down to a more domesticated arrangement.
… which is all very believable and one can relate to it.

The story progresses at a smooth pace for the first 100 odd pages with loads of funny and fun incidents. But when it's climax time, the story is quickly wrapped up. Wish a bit more was shared about...
...her decision making process of choosing between the 2 options
...her emotional turmoil and the clarity later
...the re-union get-together which was planned but there's no mention about whether it happened or not!
...the partnership of Rakesh and Tina...

But despite all this the book holds your interest till the very end and it sure is a delightful read.

Pick it up and to enjoy some many hilarious, romantic moments shared in Untruly Yours.
