V for Vendetta, written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, is a graphic novel set in a dystopian Britain. Marred by a nuclear war, and run by a fascist government, the people of Britain have no option but to do as they are told. Freedom is amiss; hope is scant and in this time of peril, V, an unknown survivor of a horrid experiment-gone-wrong, surfaces to bring justice back into society. V wear a Guy Fawkes mask and on a quite evening, saves young Evey Hammond from getting raped by the members of the state secret police.
V takes a liking to Evey and tells her of his plan to overthrow the fascist government. His mission involves killing a paedophile priest and an infamous broadcasting personality. But V is a wanted man, and because of her association with him, so is Evey. Evey has to go through a painful ordeal to understand the truth about the people who are trying to control her life, and the life of many others. Will she stand up along with V to bring down the totalitarian rule? Or will she succumb to fear and live her life like she has been doing thus far? The book was adapted into a feature-length film starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman.
