The sequel to 2011�s Thor, Thor: The Dark World (2013) is an American film adapted from the Marvel character, Thor. Directed by Alan Taylor, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Ortman, Anthony Hopskins among others.
Bor, Odin�s father rises against the Dark Elf Malekith, wanting to destroy the weapon called the Aether. Having conquered Malekith's forces Bor safeguards the Aether. Presently Loki stands imprisoned and Thor along with Fandral, Volstagg, and Sif try to repel marauders on Vanaheim. This is their final move in a war to appease with the Nine Realms. Parallely in London, Dr. Jane Foster � an astrophysicist along with her intern, Darcy Lewis are to travel to a deserted factory where portals linking various worlds have appeared. These portals are disruptors of the physics law around them. Jane is sent to another world, and there she gets infected by the Aether.Malekith, who is set off by the Aether's release, attacks Asgard after turning Algrim into a Kursed. Meanwhile there is the search for Jane as it is sensed that she has the Aether. Frigga, Thor's mother is killed while protecting Jane, which forces Malekith and Algrim to flee, abandoning Jane.
Fandral agrees to assist the escape of Thor, Loki and Jane, who head to Svartalfheim. As the story proceeds, Thor decides to return to Asgard. On reaching Asgard, he declines the offer made by Odin, which is to take the throne. He informs Odin about Loki's sacrifice. While leaving, Odin's form surprisingly changes into a grinning Loki. Volstagg and Sif go to see the Collector and entrust with him the Aether. Later, in a post-credit scene, we see Jane and Thor reuniting on Earth. Meanwhile,somewhere in London a frost monster has been accidentally transported to Earth. Thus, the last battle is still running wild.
