So glad this was a free Red Box Rental... DON'T TAKE THIS MOVIE HOME TONIGHT!!
Take Me Home Tonight is honestly one of the all time worst comedies I have ever seen.

Over 90% of it is boring, makes no sense (even though there is hardly any story to this movie at all), and completely UNfunny.

The sidekick in this movie is extremely unattractive, stupid in an annoying way, and also UNfunny.

There's one nice scene where Topher finally calms down enough to start to get to know the girl he had a crush on in High School. And one really good pep talk from his dad, which is actually enlightening. But those are the only two good scenes in this mess, and they're pretty short.

On top of all that, I only recognized 2 songs from the 80s in the entire movie!!

Since I was 20 in 1980, I was about the same age as most of these people in the 80s, and no one I knew then ever did anything that anyone does in this movie!!

The directing is bad. The acting is bad. The story is terrible. The script is horrible.

A really horrible movie when you consider it's billed as a comedy...
Anna Ferris doesn't even appear in anything close to resembling the hair/makeup/wardrobe shown in the poster. This is more a drama than comedy and it's not all that compelling. I think the leads did it for a paycheck!

Kernal Of Emotion Lost In Pure Dreck
    Format:DVD
The main plotline of "Take Me Home Tonight" is one that should be compelling: college-grad loser decides to finally come out of his shell and enter the "real world". However, there are so many poor elements embedded in this movie that it completely overshadows what could have been a decent story.

For a basic plot summary, this film sees Matt Franklin (Topher Grace), a mathematical genius, wasting away his post-college life working at an outlet video rental store and never venturing much further out than that. When his old high school crush Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer) shows up, however, Matt decides to throw caution to the wind for one night to impress her.

There are two main problems with this movie: First, it is billed as a nostalgic comedy, but lives up to neither term. It was beaten to the "80s memories" punch by "Hot Tub Time Machine", and is utterly lacking in humor (I laughed twice the entire showing). So, the entire premise for the film fails miserably.

Can the acting save the day? Nope. Grace & Palmer are serviceable as the leads, but their characters are so ridiculous that it doesn't give them much room to act. Then, Anna Ferris is given the most shallow role of the whole film. It was almost as if the writers were shocked to have her name in the film, but then didn't know what to do with her. Whenever (at the brief moments) that this film actually makes you care, Ferris' plotline drags it right back down again.

Thus, I cannot recommend "Take Me Home Tonight" to any audiences. If you want some good 80s-nostalgia belly laughs, turn to "Hot Tub Time Machine" instead. This one will only let you down.

    Less Than Zero...Stars
    Format:DVD
This movie is the absolute armpit. It has no sense of the decade it's supposed to be capturing. A record store has a Madonna poster from 1985 alongside one of Guns 'N' Roses from 1988. The music is all over the map. I guess the makers thought that any music released between 1980 to 1989 would suffice. I assume that the principal characters are post college grads but they all look like they are in their thirties. There's no discernible plot or character to care about. It commits the cardinal sin of making Anna Faris unattractive. Tolerance of the noxious Dan Fogler is like walking on hot nails. The script has it's basis on a story(?) by star Topher Grace. Topher, go back to "That Seventies Show" if you want to comment on a decade you have no firsthand knowledge about. If you want to check out some decent Eighties nostalgia rent "Hot Tub Time Machine".

    WORST MOVIE EVER!!! EPIC FAIL!
    Format:Blu-ray
SPOILER!! Every funny part was in the trailer!

What was someone smoking when they came up with this movie?! This movie is so unfunny. Its like they were given a soundtrack to make a movie to. This film will be the black mark on Topher Grace's career! Any movie Dan Fogler is in SUCKS! Look at FANBOYS! Fanboys [Blu-ray ] Also this is probably the worst acting I've ever seen out of Anna Ferris. I think this should have been a direct to disk movie and then burned by anyone with taste. The soundtrack sucks! I love 80s music but I wouldn't have picked these bands to play even a country fair.

    Let's Hear it for Latvia
    Crew background:
Lead actors credits resemble a laundry list of no-name movies, shorts, animation voices and TV series. Nothing of note unless Hysterical Psycho, Scary Movie 2, 3, 4 & Predators are on your five star list. Even the writers and director have little to show but Tele shows and a few totally unheard of movies. Result is acting that is bland and unimaginative to go along with the script which is stereotypic white middle class party fantasy. Coincidentally the unimaginative movie's story writing was created by none other than the movie's lead bland actor. How appropriate.

    Plot:
The usual juvenile loser wants to party, get drunk or drugs, have sex with fantasy girl and turn his life around. A script that is so stereotypically redundant that any tenth grader could recite it in their sleep.

    Sets, Props & Music:
Video store, old cars and house with pool. Some 80s clothing from a Hollywood props warehouse and some really minor royalties for the cheapest and probably least representative of 80s music they could get.

    Conclusion:
The intelligence attribute of American culture continues it's decline in part due to the quality of it's zombie entertainment. Where are we ranked comparatively to other countries - in the mid 20s, just behind Latvia. Sorry Latvia for depressing the neighborhood.

    Painfully Bad
    Format:DVD
Having grown up in the 80's, I enjoy movies that tie in to that nostalgia. I've seen literally thousands of movies over the years and this one is one of the worst. It is certainly the worst movie since 2000. To put it in amongst its peers of crap on DVD, it comes in behind Funny Man, Ishtar, Leonard Part 6, and Dial 666. The acting is horrible, especially Dan Fogler, who was probably talent scouted at a homeless shelter. The plot is very weak and makes little sense (ie the girl has sex with Topher's character on the first date(no nudity) and then gets upset that he works at a video store, yet claims she isn't upset about him not being a rich investor (yeah, right - you jump the practical stranger when you think he's rich and dump him when you think he isn't). His friend is a loser who only gains any bit of acceptance by others once he takes a bunch of cocaine (let's plug the narcotic for the likely source of the revenue for this film). The dad turns out to be a bad cop. Normally, I don't mind some vice and I liked Hot Tub Time Machine and Superbad, and other films where mischief runs rampant and the cops are inept (also love the Scream series with Dewey), but this film seems to promote such things in a way that neither supports the flimsy plot, nor adds humor or entertainment to the movie. Topher can't act - he did well on That 70's show mainly on the strength of the script, other characters (like Fez and his parents), and the fact that his role was a rather deadpan character without much range of emotion or situational variation requiring talent in acting. Unfortunately, as limited as his acting skills are, they shine when compared to his writing skills.
